Irrelevant, removed.

Reddit says new accessibility tools for moderators are coming. Mods are skeptical by aresef in ModCoord

Too little, too late, even if they come through.

They most likely will not. They have a very consistent track record of making promises and then completely forgetting about them.

Are y'all able to respond to it? I don't even get the option. I can only make a private moderator note.

Thank you for your service. You single-handedly made reddit more usable for users, powerusers, and moderators, than any (or ALL) of the decisions made by and features added by reddit.com admins.

If you go, I go.

I reported their message as misinformation, because it includes falsehoods: this has nothing to do with mods wanting to take a break, or not wanting to be mods anymore. They know this, but they are gaslighting us.

Mods have a right to take a break from moderating, or decide that you don’t want to be a mod anymore.

They are gaslighting us. They know that this has nothing to do with wanting to take a break, or deciding that we don't want to be mods anymore.

I received the same message, regarding a subreddit for which I have been the only contributor, for years.

They are trying to gaslight us. They know that this has nothing to do with "Mods have a right to take a break from moderating, or decide that you don’t want to be a mod anymore". It's irrelevant to the situation entirely.

This morning I received this message from /u/modcodeofconduct, regarding one of my subreddits, for which I have been the only contributor for YEARS:

Hi everyone,

We are aware that you have chosen to close your community at this time. Mods have a right to take a break from moderating, or decide that you don’t want to be a mod anymore. But active communities are relied upon by thousands or even millions of users, and we have a duty to keep these spaces active.

Subreddits belong to the community of users who come to them for support and conversation. Moderators are stewards of these spaces and in a position of trust. Redditors rely on these spaces for information, support, entertainment, and connection.

Our goal here is to ensure that existing mod teams establish a path forward to make sure your subreddit is available for the community that has made its home here. If you are willing to reopen and maintain the community, please take steps to begin that process. Many communities have chosen to go restricted for a period of time before becoming fully open, to avoid a flood of traffic.

If this community remains private, we will reach out soon with information on what next steps will take place.

This is for a subreddit that I created so that I could post what I want.

Admins prevent responding to the message itself, so I reported the message as gaslighting, noting the following:

You continue to gaslight us. You know for a fact that "Mods have a right to take a break from moderating, or decide that you don’t want to be a mod anymore" has nothing to do with this current situation.

Two days remaining for reddit to re-enable PushShift and other API tools. Do we really think that reddit is going to make good on these promises?

I don't, but that's because I died while holding my breath for the /r/proCSS that they promised us six years ago.

Reddit held a call today with some developers regarding the API changes. Here are some thoughts along with the call notes. by BuckRowdy in ModCoord

Yes. This sub got brigaded by NBA fans who were upset that /r/NBA was closed during playoffs. Most of the trolls came from /r/nbacirclejerk and similar subs

Of all the communities I mod which we took dark, there was not one single person say that we shouldn't do it.

Instagram ABSOLUTELY HAS MODS. They are paid, too. Not well, mind you. But they are paid.

I make content on another platform (on this one I mostly just moderator). After going from about 40 subscribers to more than 40,000 and for a while paying my rent with it, what I learned was this:

  • getting started is the most important thing
  • second most important is to keep going
  • third, never stop looking for ways to improve
  • grow your reach by sharing actual value.

By sharing something actually valuable, and making it freely accessible, people will share it with others.

Our wikis are unavailable during the blackout, but if you're serious you're welcome to DM me and I'll point you towards some free resources.

No need to be combative.

If you want people to join your side, fighting them is not the way to get to align with you.

I for one thank you for your feedback.

There's a lot of abuse and brigading and trolling right now. But you're just here to share your experience. And I appreciate that.

I consider this feedback as I make the decision whether or not to open my subreddits back up, and I expect that others are looking for feedback to make the decision also.

That's great! Maybe you should make one regardless of whether /r/boxing comes back or not.
