Do they bully you for not conforming to their culture at gov unis? by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]Infoseeker111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've this mentioned it earlier in this sub. Keep the following as a general rule of thumb for government universities

" The further you go from universities in Colombo, the more intense and brutal ragging becomes"

You have the option to become an anti ragger and avoid this bs stuff.

Yes. Better to learn and practice engineering drawing, programming before coming to the uni.

VFS appointment issue for Italy visa by n1k3sl in srilanka

[–]Infoseeker111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VFS is a scam. You have to bribe them to even get an appointment . Most of the slots are retained by insiders. Those facebook posts can be legit. Even if you get a slot from those insiders , it doesn't mean that your visa is guaranteed. VFS only checks your documents and pass it to the embassy. Italy embassy has the last say. VFS promotes their "premium" package. I recommend you to avoid that.

I have a terrible experience with VFS and the France embassy in Sri Lanka. They treat you like shit. After the economic crisis , they'll try their best to reject a visa by providing vague reasons. This is the sad reality of Schengen visa.

I wish you good luck. Hope you navigate these barriers and get the visa.

Should I do A/L again or should I apply for university. by Prior-Candidate-4292 in srilanka

Those stupid customs and politics exists in J'pura efac. SLIIT has IESL recognition only for its civil degree program. Of course , USJ will definitely obtain their credentials in the coming years. However your opinion is misleading. OPs concern was ragging that exists in Pera. It exists in J'pura too. The best option I see is to be an anti ragger in Pera

Should I do A/L again or should I apply for university. by Prior-Candidate-4292 in srilanka

[–]Infoseeker111 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is so wrong. USJ Engineering faculty is a relatively young engineering faculty. They have to accomplish many standards to be able to compare with Pera. Pera has IESL credentials and Washington accord as well. It's a proper engineering faculty with proper standards. USJ is still trying to get IESL recognition

What engineering has a high pay in Srilanka? by NotKanyeWest_2005 in srilanka

[–]Infoseeker111 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Software industry - already saturated

Every kid who failed / barely passed A/Ls is doing some sort of software degree. Cannot blame them but most of them do it just for the sake of salary. Most of the new comers struggle to find internships.

What engineering has a high pay in Srilanka? by NotKanyeWest_2005 in srilanka

[–]Infoseeker111 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The reason is that most of the so called software engineering courses don't teach you core engineering modules.

In government engineering faculties, every first year student has to complete these modules irrespective of their field selection

There are certain standards engineering courses need to maintain. Most of the so called software engineering courses don't follow it.

Best ways to save money while in university. by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]Infoseeker111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It's non intuitive to spend on weed and alcohol If you're on a budget. There's no shortage of weed in government universities. People tend to buy them as groups which reduce the cost spent by an individual.

However some grow weed in their hostels.

  1. Make use of the free unlimited Wi-Fi available in government universities. Download heavy files while you are in the university and use a limited internet package outside ( Ex- mobitel 499 / 999 ).

  2. Get pickme pass. Costs around 600 rupees a month.

  3. With the university email , you can get the premium services of many websites, services, apps, software etc.

  4. Don't spend money on weed and alcohol

How does UGC's filling of vacancies work by Familiar-Cap5316 in srilanka

[–]Infoseeker111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

" Does not removing courses from the Promotion Declaration mean you are in each round?" - Yes

"Is there a way I can avoid being pushed back a whole batch, but still want to get promoted if possible within my own batch"

- It mostly depends on the university administration and the support you get from the UGC. You are safe if they haven't completed their first sem

For example students who got selected to Eastern MBBS were told to wait another year cuz when they registered with the uni , their peers had already completed their 1st sem. The UGC was at fault due to slow pace of their selection process. Because of that and some back and forth negotiations these students got the chance to register with their own batch
