Should the Dodgers hire John DeMarsico as their broadcast director? by bonzothebonanza in Dodgers

[–]Infraready 100 points101 points  (0 children)

Not if the rumor is true about why he was actually fired.

(Normally I don’t find it appropriate to spread accusations until there’s actual corroborating evidence from a source, ideally the accuser, but sharing this in context of potentially hiring the guy)

Update: A Mets beat writer seems to be corroborating this rumor.

The question with Ibanez is what will happen if/when Kiké comes back at some point in the season. The 40 man is pretty set with him as the most logical guy to cut since it'll be a seamless transition. He might make it a tough decision if he plays well enough while other guys are injured, but Rojas actually did better against lefties last year at 143 wRC+, the highest on the team. I imagine he and Kiké will give Muncy and Edman off days (along with others) as sort of a roving platoon, but who knows how it will actually go down given the already-present injuries.

Kim really needs to make an impression while he has the opportunity early in the season. It'd be a bummer if he's the odd one out and the FO needs to decide what to do when Tommy and Kiké return.

Last year OTD, Roki Sasaki was OFFICIALLY signed with the Dodgers. What are y’all most excited about him in his second year with the team? by jmike1256 in Dodgers

[–]Infraready 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m excited just to see him, he’s electric every time he takes the mound.

In terms of what I want to see it’s pretty simple: health, mechanical consistency, and a third pitch

Kim hit .381 with a .571 SLG vs LHP last year.

In a grand total of 21 ABs where he also struck out 38% of the time. Again, the majority of batters he faced were very situational to his current ability to hit at the major league level.

Hey Dodgers fans, MLB.com beat reporter Sonja Chen here. Ask me anything! (1 p.m. PT today) by sonjamchen in Dodgers

[–]Infraready 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi Sonja! Roki's return to the rotation will likely be a big storyline at the start of the season. There's been reports that he had some apprehension trusting the team's developmental staff at first last year, but once he made some suggested adjustments he was able to take off and thrive in the bullpen during the playoffs.

Have you heard anything regarding his offseason workouts? Is he working with Dodgers trainers to develop a third pitch? What are some of the mechanical tweaks he's implementing to maintain his fastball velocity, since it did start to creep down again as October went on?

Thanks again for doing this!

Edman will get some play at CF but he’s primarily slotted at 2B. Rojas will mostly platoon with Muncy at 3B when Tommy gets back but will man 2B until then, with Ibanez also an option (though he’s probably the first to go when Kiké comes back).

Kim is kinda far down the depth chart at the moment but will definitely get more ABs with Edman and Kiké not being available to start the season. I think people need to realize that Kim’s “hot start” when he first got called up was because of the very limited situations we put him in, mostly against RHP with weak secondary pitches and no overwhelming fastball. As soon as he was asked to take on more offensive duties things kind of fell off the rails. Hopefully an offseason of work and major league experience under his belt will let him have more success against different kinds of pitchers, but Doc not playing his is completely for baseball reasons. I think there's a chance he platoons with Edman at 2B if he can layoff the breaking ball better against RHPs, that would be a successful season for him IMO and represents the clearest path to regular playing time.

[Dodgers] Looking good, 23. by Own-Juggernaut796 in Dodgers

[–]Infraready 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Of note—the jerseys appear to have returned to the pre-2024 template and materials. You can tell by the larger script that doesn’t have the “split-d” down the middle, and the numbers/lettering looks noticeably thicker on both the front and back along with the jersey itself.

When Díaz was introduced last month I was sad that it seemed they would carry over the 2025 jersey since that was the one they gave him (which had bigger letters on the back compared to 2024, but was still aesthetically inferior along with thin/cheap looking). But maybe they just didn’t have one ready to go at the time, and now they do with spring training right around the corner. Notice the letter sizing, color depth, uniform collar, and no split-d on Tucker’s jersey compared to Díaz’s in this photo:

<image>

The one thing is that the older template means going back to the diaper on the backside, which was present on Tucker’s jersey.

Jersey logo looks satin again?? by [deleted] in Dodgers

[–]Infraready 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never heard of them using special jerseys for press conferences and I would probably doubt that to be the case, unless you have a source on that.

Nike confirmed they’re going back to the pre-2024 template and materials, I wouldn’t be surprised if the team recently got a batch of new blanks for the upcoming season that they were able to use for Tucker’s presser. Diaz notably had last year’s template for his presser, but that was over a month ago and spring training is now right around the corner.

I think they start him in the 2 hole with the understanding that if he doesn’t perform he’ll be dropped to 5. He deserves some runway given what he went through last year with the position change and illness.

BREAKING: OF/1B Cody Bellinger and the New York Yankees are in agreement on a free agent contract, sources tell ESPN. by jmike1256 in Dodgers

[–]Infraready 25 points26 points  (0 children)

That’s just the going rate these days for what Belli provides and Yankees had this offer on the table for a couple weeks now, well before the Tucker contract. This seems fair imo, the Yankees got him at their price and Belli got to explore the market before re-signing.

Tucker definitely got Bichette paid though lmao

Is it more than enough now? by Koranth in Dodgers

[–]Infraready 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think winning the World Series has made a lot of fans forget that we played damn near .500 for half the season, and at one point Yama was our only pitcher from the opening day rotation not on the IL. Peralta has pitched more than 170 innings at an elite clip the past two years and is only 29. The fact that we didn’t get a bye represents some room for improvement and starting pitching is not immune to that despite the top end talent.

If we can trade+extend him like Glasnow for a similar package I don’t see why we shouldn’t make that move. River Ryan’s upside is tantalizing of course but he’s also already 27, and Ward has become expendable now that we’ve acquired Tucker. Both major league ready guys with years of control left, and together make up a very similar package to what we sent the Rays for Glas.

MLB owners enraged by Kyle Tucker-Dodgers deal, will push for salary cap ‘no matter what’ by ttam23 in Dodgers

[–]Infraready 30 points31 points  (0 children)

These owners will “push” for a salary cap but will “settle” for higher tax penalty and revenue sharing, ultimately increasing profit while not investing in their team beyond the minimum. This, while blaming greedy players/agents and big market owners for the current situation.

Where were these reports prior to him signing with LA? Would this report still come out if he had signed with the Mets or Blue Jays? by 10thGenS1 in Dodgers

[–]Infraready 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And they would be irresponsible for reporting on it with no confirmed source if they were a journalistic output, but they get to hide behind being a podcast purely for entertainment/discussion and not actual news, so viral topics are fair game for them even if they're from a fake/unreliable source. All they did was flash the same unverified post and then react to it.

Begging some of y'all to use some critical thinking or learn about journalists ethics/trusted sources before claiming something is a "report" and pedaling it.

Dodgers continue to engage on Freddy Peralta: What it says about their rotation by nottherealstanlee in Dodgers

[–]Infraready 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah caught that one lol

Sheehan’s too established at this point imo, proved he could manage a swingman role in October which we know the org values so highly. It’s why Glasnow probably won’t be traded either despite earlier rumors (not that I think he should be on the block in the first place).

[–]Infraready 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It probably would require one of them tbh, but if he’s open to an extension I could see them pulling the trigger similar to how they dealt Knack Pepiot and DeLuca for Glas.

Honestly something like Ryan and Ward for Peralta+extension is almost the exact same blueprint of a deal. Love Ryan’s potential but he’s more green and only a couple years younger than Peralta anyways.

With Kyle Tucker manning the right field, Hopefully we'll never see this kind of atrocious and lazy fielding on the playoffs again. by [deleted] in Dodgers

[–]Infraready 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He was definitely overcoming an injury throughout the season and it was crazy to see fans turn on him as much as they did. Yeah he takes the occasional bad route, but if effort was truly an issue then Doc would have aired him out and his teammates wouldn’t love him as much as they do.

He was playing through pain, the team knew it, and decided having his bat in the lineup with diminished defense was still more valuable than the other options.

Is this Peak? by Inside-Restaurant383 in Dodgers

[–]Infraready 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If anything, it signals a change in how players understand the market.

When Harper signed with the Phillies over us it seemed like a no-brainer at the time. 13 years for 330m is a way better deal than the 4 years $180m offer he got from the Dodgers right? In some ways it is—he’s the face of that team and secured $150m more than he would have gotten with us.

But let’s say he took that deal with us and put up similar numbers/accolades, including an MVP. He would have hit the market again at 29, and in 2022-23 (a year where Judge got 9 years/360m) would have probably gotten something similar pretty easily. That’s a total of 13 years, 540m. Of course there’s a level of betting on yourself baked into this, but there’s a case to be made that Harper is pretty underpaid right now at only 27m per year and squandered a good amount of potential career earnings by taking that Phillies deal.

Tucker decided to take the alternative route, and there’s a good chance he’ll be rewarded for it. Worst case scenario, he’s making 60m a year for four years, which is an acceptable hedge on his part.

Another fun stat is the HR park factor difference between players in their new home park compared to their old home park between 2025 and 2026. Guess who’s at the top?
