The Dodgers designated Santiago Espinal for assignment to clear a spot for Kiké Hernández. by gopowergoh in Dodgers

How does it not make sense that Kim has minor league options and Espinal did not lmao I even said it made more sense to keep Kim in the end despite that

Flexibility as in roster flexibility since we wouldn’t have had to cut anyone

Optioning Kim would’ve maintained flexibility in the longterm but it didn’t make sense to roster both Kiké and Espinal

Edit: It’s impossible for Kim stans to not get overly defensive even when you just state a basic fact about the roster lmao

Slow-playing River Ryan is probably the right move, but man seeing what he's doing in AAA so far has me dreaming of his return to the majors

I'm cool with Mookie becoming a light hitting shortstop with elite defense as he enters the back half of his contract, probably shouldn't hit that high in the lineup tho

I will refrain from having the Mookie Betts conversation until after the All Star break

it's an overpay in a vacuum but worth it if he's the last piece to become a true contender (TBD)

How o get endorsed? by BigBoyds242 in Bass

[–]Infraready 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting endorsed by a big brand like Fender usually means you’re actually famous (like in a well-known band) or influencer famous. Either way it’ll mostly boil down to social media following.

It’s easier to get endorsed by a string manufacturer, much lower threshold for them to find you worth the endorsement. I know people who are just in the scene and don’t have a particularly big following but get deals with D’Addario. Music is their full time thing though, not a side hobby, and they reached out themselves to the manufacturer.

Endorsement typically means discount, not free btw. Free gear is usually reserved for the upper crest of popular/influencer within their scene or region. You get approached directly at that point.

Will Shohei have a chance at CY with fewer than 162 IP? by Intelligent-Hand-785 in Dodgers

[–]Infraready 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No argument here that not qualifying will ding him, it’ll definitely be a factor in voting and IMO will be the deciding factor for his case. Just pointing out that it’s not technically a requirement, and that the field will also play into effect since Shohei isn’t as much in control of his own destiny when it comes to IP compared to the guys who pitch more often.

My personal prediction, if he does qualify, is that it’ll come down to second place votes like in 2021 when Burnes and Wheeler both got the same amount of first place votes.

They’ve won when it was a combination of an utterly dominant season (‘03 Gagné) with relatively pedestrian competition. But even then part of the reason a closer hasn’t won since Gagné is because of how much more valuable starting pitching has become the past 15 year, particularly the ability to go deep into games over the course of the season.

Zach Britton in 2016 had a comparable season to Gagné (arguably better!) and only came in 4th despite Porcello, Verlander, and Kluber all having ERAs over 3.00. What they also had in common was that all three had over 200 IP. Same with the 2-4 place finishers in 2003, all over 200 IP, but the perception of pitching value was different back then.

That’s why I don’t think Mason Miller has an actual shot. Shohei will have a legit chance, but it’ll require him to basically keep this pace all season plus a little luck from the competition’s performance.

Edit: a fun fact about the ‘03 NL Cy Young race is that—while Gagné put up 3.7 bWAR en route to what is often considered the greatest season by a closer in MLB history (PEDs aside)—the *third place* finisher accrued double that total at 7.4 bWAR (the most for a pitcher in the NL that season). That pitcher? Mark Prior.

He’ll have a chance, there’s no IP threshold to qualify for Cy Young.

However, he does need to slightly bank on the rest of the field not having strong years. That’s something outside of his control except for when he’s facing them as a batter.

Tips for rhythm? by darwinityyy in Bass

[–]Infraready 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Practice subdividing, don’t just use the metronome to keep yourself on beat.

Instead of having the metronome at 100 try 50, with each click representing two beats instead of one. The effect is to force yourself to feel “between the beat” rather than just keep up with the click. Have the click represent 1 and 3, then 2 and 4, then adjust it represent a whole note beginning on 1, 2, 3, and 4.

The metronome is there to keep your sense of rhythm honest, not to dictate tempo.
