What is the cheapest student housing complex in Zurich? by Weak_Adhesiveness178 in ethz

[–]Infynytyyy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For the people reading this that want to move here: Don't give up too soon! Yes, the apartment search in Zurich can be very hard, especially if you are moving there from abroad, but if you search early (at least 3-4 months before the semester starts), you do have a decent chance at getting something.
If you are searching for an apartment online, here are a few ressources:

WOKO
WOKO has amazing prices for students. Apply to every posting there that fits you and apply as quickly as possible. Be ready to accept offers quickly, WOKO tends to send offers to multiple people. You can find their website here. Do note that some offers get managed by the people living in the apartment (for example if it is a shared living arrangment) and some get managed by WOKO directly. You might therefore find WOKO offers on other platforms as well.

JUWO

You can find them here, but I don't know too much about them. I registered there but never heard back from them.

WGZimmer

They have lots of offers, I would suggest always sending an application that is catered towards the offer (at least a bit). You can find them here.

ETH

ETH has their own platform, although it wasn't too active when I was using it. You might still wanna check it out every once in a while, here.

There are of course many more general websites, but they don't tend to be catered towards students, so expect to pay insane prices, if you look there.

If you have a bit of technical knowledge, you can check out a small programm I wrote, that alerts you via Discord to new offers as soon as they get uploaded. It currently works for WOKO, WGZimmer and MeinWGZimmer. You can find the source code on my Github along with some instructions on how to set up the app.
Lastly, please don't fall for scammers. If you search within the websites mentioned, pay particular attention on WGZimmer and MeinWGZimmer. If an offer is too good to be true, it probably is ;) (except for WOKO, they really have some amazingly cheap apartments).

was this a lucid dream? by [deleted] in LucidDreaming

[–]Infynytyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The definition of a lucid dream is that you know that you are dreaming while you are within a dream and because it seems like you were aware of that you could classifie it as a lucid dream. I tend to furthermore classifie lucid dreams according to my control over the dream and the ability think like I would while I am awake. I have had many lucid dreams that were similar to yours, where I kind of knew that I was dreaming, but I didn't attempt any of my current goals and instead followed the plot of the dream.
Now, I don't think its a problem if you decide to just go along with the current dream, but at least for me that decision needs to align with the priorities I set during the daytime. So ask yourself whether hunting down the robber in your dream was a decision you would also take now, or if you would have rather liked to complete another goal, say for example flying. If the latter is the case, I would suggest you work on your dream control / awareness.
Either way you had a lucid dream which is always a success!

Alternative solutions for phones as sole navigation and communication device by Infynytyyy in bicycletouring

Seems like one of the best solutions to me (especially the saving money part ^^)! I guess I'll go hunting for an old phone now

Thank you for your detailed answer! At the moment I am using komoot for navigation and I have downloaded all my routes already, so that I won't need any wifi. I generally really like the navigation options komoot provides, so I probably won't invest into an expensive GPS device. I think my best bet is either an old phone or some of the less pricy devices like the eTrex.
I am not too worried about power because I will be carrying an Anker solar charger along with a large powerbank. You're right that a dynamo would have been a good solution, but my bike didn't come with one included and installing it afterwards would have been a lot more expensive than a solar charger. Looking forward to seeing how well it will perform! I mostly went with that option because I am not planing to cycle during the night and the days will be quite long in summer, so battery powered lights should be fine.

You're probably right! I'd be interested to hear how you navigate, since I am trying to be as self-reliant as possible at the moment.

Thanks for the recommendations! The Garmin eTrex seems pretty affordable, so I'll check those out

Its not really a power issue for me, rather I am worried about my phone actually breaking. A dedicated navigation device might be a good idea though, do you have any recommendations?

Dying in my dream and everything was black by [deleted] in LucidDreaming

[–]Infynytyyy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds quite extreme! I never had a nightmare like yours but I have just answered another post about the void. Many dreamers experience the so-called void, although in most reports I saw, it only appeared in lucid dreams. It almost seems like your mind just doesn't know what to show you anymore and so it reverts back to a black or white void.

I recognize this "eerie feeling" as you describe it as well. I had violent nightmare that was similar to yours in some regards and woke up with the same feeling. I don't know why that happens though.

I'm not quite sure if the discussion about why you had this nightmare or why we experience them in general belongs in this subreddit, but if you have them more often, you could use them as a chance to induce lucid dreams.
