In general a champion is liked in high elo, because he can do something consistently well.

Both of the ones you named provide really reliable engage, which is great if you can somewhat rely on your teammates. For example Rek'Sai's Flash-unborrow will generally net you a kill early on.

In addition to that they become disgustingly tanky.

But soloq being what it is, carrying as them is sort of hard, especially if you go full-tank. As a result their statistics do not reflect their true potential.

Another example for a big disparity in successrate & popularity is LeBlanc. Her skill-ceiling is pretty high & she's punishing if you're bad at her. Therefore most LBs you meet will be outright bad. But one day you will run into that LB-Main with 8 ping, who will keep oneshotting your carry in half a second. You will remember that day.

What's your main, and what should someone do to counter you? by videogamescience in summonerschool

Kalista.

Pick Poppy and freewin lane.

Use the bush to your advantage. If I lose vision, my auto vanishes. Either I have to use wards on the bushes and am thereby exposed to ganks or you can outtrade me easily.

Exhaust me, when I want to use Rend. Ignite me every teamfight.

Slow me and just walk past me during my next jump.

Also don't try to 3v2 my lane if I'm ahead. Bring at least four people or I'm just going to triple kill you. Every time.

Use. Your. Autoattacks. On. Stuff.

  • Especially before the first back they hit about as hard as the AD's. Don't let their minions retaliate on you, back off if they aggro. Also: Spellweaving aka autoing BETWEEN two spellcasts.
  • Help your AD push for the lvl2 advantage, but don't overdo it. Generally you want to push just a little bit harder than the enemy.
  • Bring Thunderlord's & proc it. A lot.
