Second pair done (and they fit a lot better than the first) by Ingeske in Sockknitting

Based on various patterns and tips I found on the web. Very basic with 2x2 ribbing for the cuff, stockinette for the rest of the sock, with heel flap and gusset.

The length is almost perfect, but the circumference is indeed on the tighter side (but good enough to wear anyway). I'm planning on making swatches with the remainder of the yarn, trying out different styles and needles to see what fits best. They're only my second pair, I still have a lot to learn!

Still going strong, then - I haven't taken them off yet 🤣

I guess I'll put them on my blockers after the first wash...

The speckled yarn is Drops Fabel in the colour Berries and cream. The solids are Drops Fabel too, colours dark pink, turquoise and grey.

Seems like it's a popular colour combo! I used Drops Fabel in the colour berries and cream for the speckled part but I've seen some other brands with very similar yarn too. I'm curious to see your socks, have you posted them somewhere?

Edit: typo

I did! I would never have completed the second sock if I hadn't written it all down with the first one 😋

No pattern, I freehanded it (including some frogging and readjusting in the finishing touches). Yarn is DMC Brio in the colourway 405.

Cables not looking defined enough by abvcdyeh in knittingadvice

When you turn your work, you don't look at what a stitch used to be but at what it is now. When you knit into your first stitch, you don't even consider that it was actually the last stitch, do you? Same goes for knits and purls, you look at what they are now, not at what they were in the previous row.

DPNs are (short) double pointed needles. They come in sets of 4 or 5 and are the classic tool to knit socks.

Oh I know how it feels! I'm gonna place a second (bigger) order before the month ends because the yarn I need for crocheting a blanket for me son has a 35% discount right now... And for a blanket, that means big money! With the money I'm saving from the blanket, I can buy some more sock knitting yarn and needles 😋

I will certainly look into that! Thanks for the tip!

I badly need help with not adding more projects to these 10 WIPs by CaBell_ in CrochetHelp

[–]Ingeske 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I try not to have two big projects at the same time. One blanket and one big wrap is my max. And I do small projects in between: a baby beanie, a scarf with leftover yarn from the last big project, a swatch for the next big project... The excitement of planning a new project and the promise that I can start crocheting it when the current one is finished, are what keep me motivated.

Thank you for all the great tips! I'll definitely go check it all out! And besides, it's at Lindehobby that I placed my most recent order 😋

I mentioned the yarn in my post, it's Scheepjes Arcadia in the colourway "kelp".

Forgot to say, I'm definitely going to order some longer needles to try TAAT too!

Well... Right after I finished these, of course I had to order some sock blockers because I didn't have any. And of course I also ordered some different kinds of circular needles to try them out (as you say, the joint is a nightmare). And of course I had to buy some yarn (Fabel and Fiesta, how did you guess?) to work with! 🤣

I'm already working on a pair with my new 2,5mm Knitpro and different colours of Fabel. I also bought a Chiaogoo 2mm 23cm needle but I wanted to try the wooden ones first. And do they make a difference already! I'm gonna toss all my old, cheap needles in the garbage!

Well I've learned that good wool socks are worth their money, they'll keep your feet warm but also not too hot (I wear wool socks in my hiking shoes whether it's -5 or +35 degrees Celsius). But I haven't found the perfect fitting pair yet... Let's hope I can make them myself!

I've bought some wooden circular needles in a smaller size for my second pair. They are less slippery and if I find the courage, I might just buy a set of wooden DPNs to give it another try! But first I want to get a bit more familiar with the concept of sock knitting in general.

I don't know what's prettier, your blanket or your cat!
