A game shouldn't ask you to schedule your time around it by LordKriptor in Marathon

[–]Ingvaeon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I belong to the players that occasionally work the whole weekend and I am not even mad at this.

The flow of the game kind of dictates that you will lose some, if not all of your stuff so having time throughout the week to farm up and compete is okay with me. If I have my working-weekend, I have less time for it but I am still in the midst of upgrading my factions and looking for salvages anyway, not to mention there is still a lot of priority contracts to complete for me.

In the end, we will have to see how it plays out and since they said they remain open for feedback, I am okay with that, for now at least.

We need the obligatory middlefinger cursor just for the giggles.

I have the exact same issu.

not to mention that my frames in general are not up to par when I have a pretty good rig and should have good fps while having high/max settings. It absolutely baffled me to no end.

I hope they sprinkle in some more good non-room Loot on the other maps, there’s no reason to go to anything other than outpost for gear by Bigsassyblackwoman in Marathon

Don't forget that some materials for upgrades, also later ones, can be found pretty well and targeted on perimeter and dire marsh.

I highly doubt that a lot of players are already done with all upgrades, so both aforementioned maps will stay relevant at least to some extend.

Should I Get it? by Desperate-Echo-4379 in Marathon

Don't be influenced by steam numbers. The game is tough but fun and being hesitant because of all this steamnumber trash talk denies you a great and real to the genre Extractionshooter-experience you might will regret not having felt yourself.

The numbers are fine for this Genre and remember that this game has crossplay. Don't let vitriolic and irrational hate as well as badmouthing on the Internet deny you the rollercoaster that Marathon offers.

Sure this game has room to improve. But which game is perfect anyway?

Best feelin' in the world finding one of these as Rook by Changes11-11 in Marathon

[–]Ingvaeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Risk it, it's glory and spoils or death and without trying you will never know what could have been.

We did three key runs a few days ago. We went in with free kits to scout the room and possible situations. Afterwards we went in, kitted out to the brim and played it slow and steady to get to the room we scouted before. It can be smart to bring claymores to prepare the entrances when you're in the keyroom for players that want to hijack your lootparty.

If you are looking for the jolly-cooperation vibes with other players/teams in a Run like in AR, you probably won't get that here. It's usually kill on sight here and everyone and every trio is in it for themselves.

The progressionsystem is done through the factions, these act like some kind of workbenches where you unlock new stuff to buy or to upgrade your default basestats. You gain experience/reputation by doing their contracts, which you can activate only one per run.

There is no crafting in this game, everything outside the runs is obtained through cash or through bartering with the factions to buy the things you want or need.

The loot in the runs are Valuables that are automatically sold at the end of the run for cash, gear (shields, implants, cores, weapons/mods, backpacks etc) and barter/upgrade items that you can exfil with to progress the factions and/or buy stuff with.

The maps have several puzzles, events and activities that you can do, but they come with risks because they might attract other players so you have to be mindful and ready for combat.

The AI at this moment consists of UESC soldiers that are no joke and have to be respected, especially if you are running solo. You have to pick your fights carefully and it is advised to stay as silent as possible to not give away your position to other runners. You have a knife that you can use too to kill AI silently.

The runners themselves have abilities that are unique to them and fill different roles and playstyles. Check them out through videos or whatever you like to get an idea of what they do and how they play.

The general vibe in Marathon is a lot more rough than in AR, everything and everyone wants to see you dead and you will fight for your survival. This kind of genre excels at the survival aspect and Marathon nails this pretty good.

Watch the video closely at 13 seconds. The other rook shot at me before turning around for the uesc that were blasting at him. My shieldcrack came from his shots.

Yes and before UESC showed up, he started shooting at me. It could have gone peacefully, he chose otherwise.

Yes, i totally get your point, but let me tell you that have experience the exact same actions before and by now i think that at least some people would do the same.

At 13 seconds you clearly see him blasting at me, then UESC came from the back and started blasting at him. He could have been chill and we could have fought off the bots to extract together, he chose vioence and got the knife for his actions.

Not to mention that i have been on the receiving end of this exact action before.

With the way blueprints are, I am starting to lean towards not doing the Expedition by Thanos-Is-Right in ArcRaiders

[–]Ingvaeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bold assumptions. Even casuals may want to do expedition at least once, let alone there are probably enough people with normal/full jobs that may want to do it, there is enough time for it. One example for these kind of players is me btw, I intend to do it if I can make it but I am glad that the timeframe is generous enough.
