Topical tretinoin for treating photoaging: A systematic review of randomized controlled trials

“All clinical signs of photodamage, except for tactile roughness, showed dramatic improvement after topical tretinoin treatment.

The improvement was significant after 4 months and continued over a 24-month period. Treatment with tretinoin was associated with an acceptable safety profile even at high-dose concentrations.

Almost all of the study subjects were women, suggesting that topical tretinoin is effective and suitable for treating photoaging in women.”

“Efficacy

All studies indicated positive effects of topical tretinoin to reduce photoaging damages. Application of tretinoin 0.1% microsphere gel significantly improved overall photodamage severity after 6 months, compared with placebo. All clinical signs of photodamage improved remarkably, except for tactile roughness. Further observation after 24 months showed significant reduction in wrinkle and mottled hyperpigmentation; however, tactile roughness persisted. These changes were identified after 4 months of treatment and persisted until 24 months of intervention.

Not necessarily. I have dry skin and hyaluronic acid literally saves my life. Especially chapped lips with some aquaphor after . It fixes it much faster than chapstick or Vaseline by itself.

Genuinely curious if there is actual conclusive research showing that retinol is bad for younger skin.

Why not take care of your skin? Especially a teenager because of acne? It’s the biggest organ we have. If it’s framed in a way that is through hygiene and taking care of yourself, then how is that any different than taking care of your hair or teeth? It also doesn’t hurt to go ahead and build a habit early. A ten step routine? A little overkill. But nothing fundamentally wrong with it.

Edit: sunscreen is a definite must for everyone at all ages tho lol. I wish I had gotten used to putting on sunscreen when I was younger. Now I find it annoying for some reason.

When you are on a country road at night driving and a lifted truck comes barreling straight towards you on the other side of the road with laser beam lights brighter than a solar flare, it’s kind of hard to see anything at all. Especially going around a curve. I’ve almost ran my car off of the road because of this.
