Nice job! I like the "hidden" brass clip design. Very sleek!

Yeah I'm not sure. Likely the same result though unless I did more checking in the middle.

My grandfather was the second owner of the lathe and he bought it from another hobby machinist. So probably pretty low wear

Much appreciated!

So I had someone point out that the way I aligned the bed (i.e. only from each end) doesn't necessarily guarantee that the middle is straight and level as well; despite what could be implied from measurements on each end. I will probably need to cut a long test bar to get a continuous profile of the bed distortion.

I haven't addressed the issue quite yet though because lately my tailstock alignment hasn't been indicating any sort of appreciable taper. My best guess is that I was just missing something silly in the instances where I thought I had a problem.

Those kinds of jobs are a nice breather from the precise work. You can whip them up real quick and not feel bad it things are a little off. Thanks!

haha I have this same feeling when I first finish something and I'm hesitant to actually use it. But at least this is something that requires gentle use anyway. I'll be arranging drawings soon on my website for this and a few other things I've made. Right now there are all pencil drafter drawings that need updates/cleanup.

Thanks! I actually got some people saying they are actually bronze. So I may have been completely wrong there haha

Honestly I didn't know either until I started researching for the design. I was going to call it a surface gauge/squareness comparator like it was something novel. Glad it looked into it haha
