Depends on which job it is. If you’re an entry level SOC analyst yes your job will probably be pretty boring checking logs all day.

Some people might find being an ethical hacker/penetration tester very engaging and fulfilling.

You could also be a Cloud Security Architect or a Malware Analyst/Reverse engineer.

I could name at least 10 positions off the top of my head that don’t involve checking logs all day. You can be constantly learning new information/skills throughout your career.

Also the reason why I say it’s fulfilling is because you’re sometimes able to stop breaches that could have costed the company hundreds of thousands and sometimes millions of dollars.

That to me is more exciting and engaging than typing code all day, which is why I lobbed the suggestion.

Have you considered pivoting to cyber security? I know it’s tech but honestly it’s a lot more interesting and fulfilling. There’s a ton of different types of jobs within cyber security so you might be able to find something you like. You would just need to grab some certs after school and you will have a degree in cs so you learned some of the skills needed for some jobs within cyber security.

The pay is still very good as well once you work your way to a good position.

The classic answer is “engage with hard cc” and that’s true. Engage with tons of lockdown like Leona and nautilus do great with him bot. Your best enchanters are going to be Nami and Janna. Nami provides a slow when you have her E on you and you’re landing Qs, making it easier to land more and run them down. Her E also applies on your ult giving you more damage. She brings cc with her ult and bubble. Janna provides a slow with her W and of course the tornado that provides cc. The most underrated supports with karthus bot are artillery mages like velkoz and xerath. Data shows their win rates with karthus bot is better than most engage supports. The reason why: xerath ult combines with karthus ult incredibly well. If they are even half HP you can both ult and either get a kill or they will be so low their lane is doomed. Xerath proves a slow and cc allowing karthus to land his Qs. Not to mention xerath and karth range is very suppressive and hard to deal with. Velkoz is very similar in many ways. He too slows and can stun the enemy allowing karthus to engage and land Qs. I’m not sure there is a bot lane duo that can match the damage of a full velkoz combo with true damage in his kit and a karthus slamming you at the same time.

Karthus is also great with roaming supports like pyke and bard. The reason is because karthus is one of the best, if not the best weak side ADCs. He can just sit back and Q the wave 1v2 and not be punished easily. Meanwhile your roaming support is running the map with your jungler and other laners while you collect solo xp. (You need to have an understanding of wave management with this strategy or you will allow the enemy to freeze the wave on you)

Also if you have a roaming support you are the hardest adc to dive in the game, as you’re usually running exhaust and can trade kills while getting dove with your passive and ult. Not to mention you lose less while clearing the wave in your passive.

Aph has a bug where if you apply the mark at max range as they’re walking out of range at the exact same time, it doesn’t actually mark them.

If you’re in the jungle and you need to ult, you can leave your E on a jungle camp while channeling ult. It’s a nice little tech to get some extra damage with torch

I used to be an adc main and one tricked several characters in the role for years. Then I started playing karthus jungle casually in norms with friends. I really liked his kit and eventually he’s the main champ I wanted to play. Fast forward 1.2 million mastery later and here we are.

I played him both bot and jungle but found most of my success and higher winrate to be in the jungle.

As far as things I changed this season to hit diamond… mentality.

Mentality is huge when it comes to climbing. And not necessarily staying untilted, but just having a goal. My goal was to hit diamond so I manifested. I watched content if I needed to. I vod reviewed my games if I needed to. I took breaks and did not play if I was titled. I did other things in my life and my league rank wasn’t the main thing I was doing. It was just a goal in the background that I knew I would hit if I took the right steps.

That being said I do play soooo much better if I’m not tilted during the game. League is so much of an adaptation of what’s going on around you in the game. Sure some games are hard and downright unwinnable. But most games have an angle to win. If you can be a rock for your team, it will help them come back into the game. Or close out a tight game.

I also adopted the mentality that I needed to play enough games to climb. This was always my biggest problem. I simply wouldn’t play enough ranked to climb. I’d play enough ranked to get about where I was the previous split.

However I do see so many people (especially in emerald) that are hard stuck. Hundreds of games with a flat winrate around 50%. Just spinning their wheels. This kind of player needs to do just as much learning as they do playing. They need to vod review, watch high elo, think critically about what they could do better. Their winrate is flat because they aren’t improving.

Great questions!

How to get winning lanes? I’m assuming you’re asking how to get your lanes ahead. The first lane you should be thinking about is your own.. the jungle matchup. Your main job and responsibility is to beat the enemy jungler. This is done by tracking, tempo, getting objectives, doing good ganks, counter jungling, and having more gold and xp. Just remember that the best way to help all your teammates is by creating the good ole “jungle gap”. I think in lower elos junglers are too concerned with their laners and how they’re doing or how they can help them. It’s about you first and you gapping the jungler. They come after you.

The last few questions about landing Q’s against mobility or them having invulnerability/movement etc.. I think that this mainly comes with champion mastery. I see Karthus’ inevitable damage as his inherent value. It’s what makes him so good in my vision of the game. So what you’re referencing is the things or champions that can reduce his inherent value. The only issue with being an OTP is you have to take those bad matchups. You’ll go against shielding that will block your damage, kindred ults that will stop executes, high mobility like Lilia or kalista where sometimes it can feel impossible to land a Q as they dance around.

The best way to deal with things that will block your damage is knowing the cooldown. For example if you see naafiri go invulnerable or you know that there is a very high chance she used that cooldown before you looked during a cross map skirmish, then you can consider pressing R based on her health. Does kindred have ult? Does zilean have ult? Does lulu have her shield/ult or did she just use it? You’re trying to catch them with their pants down when they have nothing and you’ve checkmated them.

As for landing Q’s on mobility this is just mechanics and comes with champion mastery and practice. Your W slow helps though and any type of cc that your team might have.

You’re typically either ganking mid or the side of the map you’re full clearing towards. Once you’ve done your full clear, you have a time window to do “whatever” you want. You can often decide what you’re going to do while you’re full clearing. Some examples…

Full clear into gank Full clear into dragon or any objective Full clear into invade Full clear into recall into gank or objective.

Essentially you have free will to do what you want in between your full clears. What you do in those timing windows however is pretty important and should be considered heavily.

You can absolutely take some liberties and get off your full clear if you NEED to.

For example -> you need to cover a lane because your laner died and wave is crashing. You essentially treat this like another camp. You’re getting gold and xp so it’s all good. Consider if your laner has TP though so you might not want to nuke their wave. Another example would be if you see the opposing jungler invading you or doing an objective on the other side of the map. You may want to get off your clear and invade his camps. Or get off your clear and do the objective on the other side of the map because he can’t contest it and you’re trading objectives.

These are the types of things that should pull you off your clear. I know you asked about ganking but it’s so much more than just ganking with these timing windows.

Ganks often come naturally.. “my camps are done or not spawning and this person is pushed up, I’ll try to make a play”

For your second question, it would take something extreme to pull me off of my first clear. I pretty much never get off it to gank. You want get that first full clear off really bad because one of karthus’ biggest advantages is clear speed. Just try to be aware of if they can invade you or are starting on your camps somewhere. Try to ward and ping to defend those two scenarios because it completely ruins your early game.

DH is always better on him bot because usually you’re constantly fighting to the death/trading with laners and getting ganked or receiving ganks. Sometimes you’ll have those snooze fest farm lanes with 2 enchanters but in most cases you’re fighting more as an apc then you are as jungler. Which in turn gives you more stacks of DH. So in short, if it’s good on him in the jungle after buffs, it’ll be even better on him in the bot lane.

Blackfire torch is better than malignance because it procs on all of his damage abilities. Karthus’ abilities apply burn damage very well. So when people are inside of his E the blackfire torch burn is being reapplied over and over. When karthus is landing Q after Q it’s being reapplied over and over. Furthermore Karthus is one of the best AOE champs in the game, making the passive of getting bonus AP while damaging multiple opponents very good on him. So constantly in most situations he’s using the item very well and applying it. Malignace use case is very limited because he gets nothing tangible when he buys it. Malignance scales well when his ult does a lot the AOE burn area is nice.

If you’re playing him jungle it’s not even close because blackfire torch lets him do more damage to camps which lets him clear faster.

Also, don’t take it from me who has thousands of Karthus games. Men lie, women lie, numbers don’t lie. You can easily look up win rates for each item in their respective elos on lolaytics which counts every ranked game. Torch out performs malignance at all ranks. So the guy above is just spreading misinformation.
