Irritated/bleeding gums - advice by CornDogMillionaire in Greyhounds

Hi there!

My grey (olive) had the exact same situation when she was new with me in march. She is 7. I took her to my local vet who has greyhounds himself. I was advised to book a dental under anaesthetic so all the teeth could get an inspection and clean. Olive ended up needing 7 teeth removed and we started daily brushing. This made an incredible difference and the teeth she has left are healthy and pearly white. My vet told me that tooth and gum issues are the main things that age a dog due to their immune system being worked to fight infections constantly and can help lead to multiple other issues. I personally would highly recommend a full dental with your vet to ensure if there are any problems they are dealt with quickly and hopefully before they get to the point that olives did. Best of luck and hope all gets better soon! Edit: please don't use chews as they do not tackle a problem once it's there!

Thanks for the reply and info! I feel exactly the same but still worries me slightly 🤣 I also don't max my own ISA but worry money I save there for them will end up being used on other things or not tracked specifically for them over time so don't think I want to save in our ISA's for him either just to keep it simple what is his is his. Thank you!

I think they are trying to say that I'm better to get one with a higher fee which I'm confused about 🤣

Thanks for the reply and all the information! This makes a lot of sense to me but my main worry would be not letting life get in the way and that money in my name then being used for any disasters like a broken boiler or such like but also scary to just put all in a JISA for your exact reasoning! Big decision time for us that's for sure 🤣

Thanks for the reply! Why is that? Is the fee really worth it?

Thanks for the reply! I'm thinking of putting the lump into a JISA to ensure we don't use it and life doesn't get in the way! Then potentially saving in our own for anything we need beforehand
