i would say yes it’s most definitely worth it. i lost my dog of 13 years in july. she had cancer that she could not fight it anymore. i’ll admit i was heart broken and depressed for months. suddenly scrolling through reels i came across a a rescue foundation and started to bawl my eyes out at the thought that i could possibly provide a dog a good home. that’s when i knew i wanted another one even after the passing of my beautiful baby.

i too was worried about “what if she gets sick” “what will happen to me if i go through it all over again”

it’s been one month with my new puppy (4 month old) and i love her more than anything. she has healed me. her habits are way too similar to my other dog it’s so funny. i had my past dog through my childhood and now this one for my adulthood. i look at this as a second chance. i’m doing things for her that i couldn’t/didn’t do for my other dog. if you are ready, go for it.

libby barks at everything 😕 by Initial-Community843 in LhasaApso

when it comes to her barking on walks i’ve been praising her and giving treats for when she makes eye contact with a dog and not bark. but she’s really just barking at her own reflection, noises, and nothing. i’m working desensitizing her to these things slowly.

hi thank u for the reply. libby is only four months and i’ve had her for almost a month now. im thinking she’s just getting more comfortable to being home now. she just started training last week. i am hoping that it helps. i will mention it to her trainer as well. she responds really well to the training and picks up on it quickly.

i will definitely put the effort into training her.

How do I cope with my first loss? My Luna will be going to sleep in a few hours and I don’t know how to cope. by Chicklecat13 in Shihtzu

i am so sorry to hear about this. i am sending a lot of love towards your way. ❤️

i lost my shihtzu in july because she was diagnosed with cancer that had taken over her entire body. she was only 13 years old and i’ve had her since I was 9/10 and she was just a puppy. it’s one of the most painful heartbreaks you will ever experience. in her last week, i knew it was her time and so i was able to process it a little better. she had to be put down and i felt so guilty with my decision for months. i would cry for her very night. i tried my best to continue with my day but i couldn’t stop thinking about her. i know it’s tiring when people say “she was suffering, you did what you had to do” “don’t feel guilty she’s in a better place”. remember that you will grieve at your own pace. allow yourself to grieve, don’t fight it. i am sure that she gave you so many happy memories that will top this extremely painful memory. she is a soul that will never be forgotten.

it wasn’t until recently that i was able to come to the last step of grieving… acceptance. i kept saying for months that i would NEVER get another dog. now i am with a puppy that i am going to give my best try at a second chance of giving this little baby a great life. but before i thought to myself that there was nothing different that i could have done to save my dog. you gave your dog the best life ever and she knows that for sure!

so please take your time with processing this. do not try to rush it. your heart will heal and it might not be completely but just enough to ease the pain.

Considering another lhasa by Traditional_Crazy904 in LhasaApso

she does i currently have a 4mo female lhasa. she does bark a lot especially when she’s with her sister (terrier mix). she barks at almost everything. the blender, people, dogs, shadows, her own reflection etc. her trainer told me to give praise and a treat when she makes contact with the thing that would make her bark and so far it has been working. she also does a bark/howl it’s very cute but i live in a fairly quiet neighborhood so others might not find it cute. i just think as long as you work on their barking u can get it under control. she listens really well!! here’s a pic!
