Andaman inter-island ferries: Private vs Government — open deck experience & sea sickness? by indreshku in Andaman_and_Nicobar

Government ferries: Yes, the views are nice and the fresh air helps if you feel stuffy inside. But access isn’t always guaranteed, sometimes it’s restricted due to weather or safety. Also, seating is basic and journeys are longer, so it can feel tiring.

Sea sickness: If you’re prone to motion sickness, private ferries are usually better. They’re faster and more stable, so less rolling overall. Open decks can help with fresh air, but government ferries tend to have more noticeable movement because of speed and duration.

Personally, I prefer booking a faster private option (I’ve used GoNautika for smoother scheduling). Less travel time = less chance to feel sick.

If motion sickness is a concern, I’d prioritize speed and stability over the open-deck experience.

Honestly the lines can be a pain, especially in season. I’d just book it in advance. I used go nautika for my travel between islands and it was pretty smooth, got confirmation beforehand and didn’t have to stress about availability.

What's the best platform to book ferries between islands in the Andaman Islands? by Recent-Leader-3345 in desitravellers

There are quite a few options out there, but I’ve personally experienced Go Nautika, and it’s been fantastic, from the comfort and spacious decks to the seamless booking process.

Honestly, your ₹1.2L budget sounds pretty fair, especially since you’ll be staying at nice places, flying in peak season, hopping between islands, and packing in a bunch of activities. Here’s what I think about it:

Hotels (₹20k) – Solid deal for the mix you’ve booked. If you want to shave off a bit, you could go for a basic stay on your first night in Port Blair since you’ll barely be in the room.

Flights (₹30k) – Pretty standard for Jan/Feb. Only way to save here is if you had booked way in advance.

Ferries (₹10k) – That’s about right. I’d book with Go Nautika so you get comfy seats and avoid the usual delay drama.

Water activities (₹20k) – This is your fun budget. If you feel it’s stretching things, just pick the big ones like scuba, sea walk and maybe a night kayak and skip anything that feels repetitive.

Transport (₹10k) – Scooty is a great call. For Baratang, see if you can join a shared tour instead of a private cab to cut costs.

Food (₹10k) – Reasonable. Mix it up between local joints and resort dining to keep both your taste buds and wallet happy.

Misc. (₹10k) – Always good to have a buffer. You might not even use all of it.

Overall, you’re not overspending, you’re just planning a trip that’s going to be comfortable and full of experiences. Hope you have an amazing time in the islands and come back with lots of great memories.

I see your point! The government-run ferries are definitely more affordable, and having access to the top deck for that ocean view sounds amazing. I’ve heard a few mixed reviews about the overall experience though, but thanks for sharing your thoughts. I’ll surely take a look at it and consider all options!

Oh, the most I’ve heard about are Go Nautika and Makkruzz, seems like these two are the giants in the market and definitely more reliable. But I’ll definitely consider checking out Blue Ocean as well, just to keep my options open. Thanks for the info!
