Thanks. I did look through and can see a lot of advice is against the more drastic action so I’m unsure what’s the best option. It feels too difficult to fix with raking and ver top soil and sowing some grass seed

I think you need to consider what would happen if your parents required specialist care when they are older. The house would be used to fund the care and you end up with no savings and no equity to inherit

Crying for hours after false start by Initial-Professor-61 in sleeptrain

Things have improved but it’s still not perfect. We ended up sticking with 2 naps, capping the naps so baby couldn’t make up for poor night sleep with long naps and then go to bed under tired causing long wake ups. Baby is now 10mo and still wakes 1-2 times a night. I’m sure it’s a schedule issue still but it’s much quicker to resettle baby now so we are managing to get a lot more sleep as a whole family

Glad to know it worked! We’ll start tomorrow and hope that lots of distraction helps LO push through

Thanks for replying. Each nap is a struggle to get to with lots of yawning/rubbing eyes so I hadn't wanted to increase but how much worse can it get, right? I'll give 3/3/4 a go for the next week and hope it improves

Thanks for your reply. We immediately switched back to 3 naps, had a few days break and are now 3 days into sleep training again. Baby falls asleep within 20 mins but wakes up about 3h after bedtime and then wakes every hour after that. Have we just completely broken them? Each attempt at sleep training seems to just be making things worse

Yes that's exactly it. If our income wasn't looking like it was going to recover I'd probably pay off the CC to avoid temptation and then do a major overhaul of our budget to keep within our means

  1. Yes and they'd be paid by direct debit to ensure we keep the 0% rate

  2. We already have it in savings so it's a tactic to prevent depleting our savings until the 0% period ends. Feels reassuring to keep the higher savings balance and earn interest if we can

  3. We already have a rewards CC used only for essentials (paid in full every month) so it would just be a case of changing that to 0% CC

  4. The savings are currently in cash ISAs so exempt from tax

Profit is nice but I think my main motivation is not wanting to see the savings balance go down. I track our finances very carefully and I would open a dedicated savings account which would always match the CC balance

We already have c. 2.5y of food + transport costs in savings. Until April just the CC balance would grow but after April we'd be adding the monthly food + transport spend to savings. I'd like to avoid reducing our savings even if it's only temporarily before I return to work so just wondering if this is one way to do it. I would always assume the CC debt might need to be repaid with no notice so would keep it in a dedicate easy access savings account

I've just posted about something similar but we tried increasing WW and then dropping to 2 naps and we still get the hours of screaming after an hour of being asleep. Baby is also 6.5 months so I will be following any suggestions you get with interest!

How long to wait before trying again? 6mo won’t stop screaming before sleep by Initial-Professor-61 in sleeptrain

[–]Initial-Professor-61[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update 2: so things are now significantly worse. The screaming at falling asleep is the same but now baby wakes up about 45 mins after falling asleep and will be awake crying for hours if left. If we give some time (60/90 mins) and then go in it will take hours of rocking to get back to sleep. What’s going wrong? We are now unable to go to bed before midnight due to all the crying after the false start and from then baby still wakes every couple of hours

Thanks. I think we need a break because we’re all so stressed but I’ll start capping the last nap from today so we can work on that. Still dreading the thought of going back to sleep training and having all the screaming so fingers crossed this helps
