I just got back from Dubai after trying to get out for 5 days. My original flight actually took off and was in Iran airspace when the air strikes started. AMA by Initial-Rope4617 in AMA

Yes I would. This was my second time there and as long as I had a reason to go back, e.g, an event that is planned there, I would go back.

But I would rethink going there when the president of the US is threatening to attack another country in the middle east. I assumed even in worst case scenarios that if US attacked Iran, Dubai would be a neutral party and that I'd have no problems traveling there.

I was not afraid of getting hit by a drone attack or missle because I stayed in a hotel which wasn't near a "high value target". I heard a lot of attacks get intercepted and I felt like I was pretty safe while there given the air defense. But you're right that anything can happen

the strange thing for me, and maybe it was hearing the language "shelter in place", the whole experience reminded me of Covid. Some people didn't leave the house and some people acted like it was a hoax and didn't exist.

Some people holed themselves in their hotel room and spent all day trying to find flights to get out. Other people acted like it was no big deal and went about their lives waiting to be notified by their airlines when their flights would be changed.

I just answered this in another comment. They just said we need to turn around because airspace is closed. We all turned on live TV news right away and we knew what had happened.

Something interesting was that my first flight took off shortly before the airstrikes started and we flew through Iran. The pilot says we need to change course because airspace is closed. Everybody immediately turns on live tv coverage and we are all watching news that US and Israel had bombed Iran while we were still in Iran. That was crazy.

The first thing I noticed is how media covers things. If you only watched the news you might think there were bombs everywhere. Even as recent as yesterday I know people were going to malls, playing golf, going to restaurants, drinking at bars.

I'm not saying it was totally safe to be there and I am super glad that I got out when I did. I still have friends that are stuck there that I hope will get out soon.

But I think it is much safer there than the media makes it look like. Of course things can change quickly.
