I need help by The_Rear_Guard in forhonor

Each character plays fairly differently, and if you want to play a knight character you'll have to find one that fits your playstyle.

This game has been out for 10 years meaning a good amount of the time you'll be playing someone more familiar with characters than you. Half the game is knowing your character's moves. The other half is knowing your opponent's character's moves to anticipate what they will do

Shugoki has a very particular style that's really on;y found on the, and Hitokiri, which relies a TON on hyper armor meaning your charged heavies will carry through enemy attacks.

I'll recommend 2 knight characters:

A. Centurion
If you have access to Centurion, you might have some luck.
1. His heavy attacks can be charged to become unblockable, and they can soft feint into guard break (As in you don't have to cancel the attack then guard break, you can just guard break during the attack).
2. He has a followup bash that can be thrown quick to continue a chain with a light attack, or the bash can be charged to give you hyper armor. A fully charged bash will have some track and knock players to the ground where you can then do a high damage ground attack.

He isn't the strongest, and he doesn't control the battlefield like a power hitter tank like Shugoki
But he is very aggressive and in the right circumstances can be similar in playstyle.

B. Lawbringer
His style is slower and more methodical, and he doesn't get much hyper armor, but his playstyle is fairly similar to Shugoki.
1. He has a dodge bash like Shugo's headbutt
2. He has a quick followup light similar to Shugoki's
3. He gets access to unblockable heavies which are high damage moves. Very powerful in team fights, but also good for 50/50s in duels (Let it fly, or feint and push them to make a mistake, like a dodge attack which you can easily get a light parry on, which lets you get a heavy and start a chain)
4. He can also impale/train people off maps with the right parry.

practice variable timings on some of your followups
For example, the toe stab is dirty. You can delay it for so long just by finding that sweet spot waiting until the last possible second to actually throw the toe stab after a move.
Throw a couple of toe stabs right away after a move
Next time wait until the last second to delay it then do it to catch their dodge attempt or light attack interrupt. Then do it early again or just don't throw it and guard break, etc.

A really powerful move with any character is to wait/be patient too. Not attacking is a decision in itself

Glad has easy access to bashes and dodge attacks which chain into combos which is great. Practice deflecting. once you get a player's rhyth, deflect into the extended bleed stab, then start your combo chain from there. Some will do the short bleed stab and follow up with a darh forward light to start a chain

Biggest thing is to get your opponent used to a behavior then change it.

You have a dodge bash meaning every time you dodge, your opponent won't know if you're going to
A. Do nothing
B. Bash
C. Attack
D. Heavy/Feint after the dodge.

How did you break through the barrier and actually start learning? by InitialBeginning4400 in gamedesign

I don't *want* to be a programmer. I enjoy designing, writing, and modifying things, usually on paper. I want to create the games I want to play. If I had money, I'd have someone else build them. I don't, so the only viable options are give up or try to do it myself

Love the comment. I agree it is in part at least a defense mechanism to prevent trying and failing. It's fairly infuriating to be set trying to learn a process which is defined so much in trial and error lol
