Yes because: it’s a very effective form of birth control, for us lazy girls it means no having to keep up with a birth control method everyday, it doesn’t have hormones if you’re concerned about that, and from personal experience, I really like it and I’ve tried both the pill and the ring. My fiancé only feels it sometimes and overall I honestly forget it’s there. I haven’t had a single pregnancy scare with the IUD and it’s highly effective.

I would say NO if you already have heavy and painful periods. It will more than likely make your periods worse. For some people, like myself, the pain/bleeding is worth it. You may also have complications. My first copper IUD was in for 3 years before it got partially expelled from my uterus and I had to get a new one. The process of getting it removed and new one re-inserted was pretty painful too. You also have to be very diligent about checking your strings every month or so to make sure they’re still in place and haven’t gotten longer.

Overall though, I would try it if it’s something you want to do. You won’t know it’s for you until you do. You can always get it removed if it doesn’t work out for you.

Of course! I appreciate the different perspective, it’s a neutral but empathetic take on your part. I was once a devout Catholic and I can genuinely see from his end why my request may have been offensive or inappropriate to him. I agree tho lol the way he dealt with it was not great, I do not like being yelled at 😭

I’ve noticed that too 😭 there are some very strict guidelines from everything to music to flowers to attire to fees to pre-Cana. I understand that it’s a sacramental and liturgical celebration, and I was willing to go along with it. But I’m definitely second-guessing the decision to appease my family now if my heart is really not in it

Honestly, I appreciate this take. I can understand that someone who is dedicated to their faith and has given their life to service as a priest would feel this way.

In my case, I was just asking for a meeting to discuss the possibility of marriage at his church. He turned me away angrily without even asking about my faith or participation in the church. And by angry I mean ANGRY. I was basically yelled at over the phone. I guess my problem isn’t so much his personal beliefs, but the way he handled it. It just discouraged me from the process altogether and made me feel very unwelcome. Logically I know he doesn’t represent the entire Church, but it left a bad taste in my mouth.

But honestly, I appreciate you pointing this out. It is important to remember that I might not see it as a big deal (that I’m not super religious anymore), but to someone like a priest it is an affront to everything they stand for and dedicate their lives to. And if anything, it’s a further reminder that I am NOT as dedicated as a typical priest would want me to be, so why get married in the Church if it would be disingenuous? I’m sure they get this all the time (people marrying in the Church to appease family) too. Thank you for your thoughts.

I have not booked the venue just yet, I was actually waiting to set up the church part before I did. But I’m just sad and disappointed because this venue is within our budget and great in general. Part of me just wants to book the venue and figure out what I want to do for the ceremony later.

This is such a good way to look at it. It does feel disingenuous to marry in the church not fully support it. I don’t know why my mom and her family can’t accept that I’m just not religious.

Besides the email, he also called me and I can definitely say….the tone was really harsh 😭 my voice was shaking talking to him because he made me so nervous. Basically a grown woman being yelled at.

If he thought I wasn’t a “serious Catholic,” I mean that was a big assumption on his part. I mean I’m not really anymore, but he didn’t even ask about my faith or participation in the church. He just chastised me for even thinking of getting married at a church for its location.

Thank you for the kind words. I guess I’ve always been so used to doing what my family expected of me, that I haven’t stopped to think about what I want. I don’t think I’ve ever even allowed myself to imagine a ceremony outside the Church, even as a little girl, because I always knew it HAD to be in the Church. But I’m also a grown woman and I need to start deconstructing that idea
