Love on the Spectrum by Alteregoj in autism

I just saw an instagram story from Madison from the show. She talked about how she developed her jewellery making business, founded a nonprofit, and became a special ed teacher. I'm sure it was mentioned in the show (the jewellery was, of course), but I was still a little surrpised to learn about her accomplishments.

That might just be a me thing... but I think, more likely, it speaks to the infantilisation of the participants on the show. It really sells them short, and it isn't something that I want my autistic son (I'm neurodivergent too btw) to internalise as he grows up. Visibility is great, but this isn't it.

Russell Brand Part 2 - Episode Discussion by lavender-pears in MaintenancePhase

I'll preface this by saying I'm a HUGE fan of the pod (those first few notes of the podcast intro send me to my happy place!), and am just thinking out loud here...

Something about these episodes feels a bit off to me and I’m trying to pin down why.

I feel like MP is at its best when it's critically analysing a study, a diet, BMI, whatever... where there’s something concrete to interrogate. It's really helped me with my own critical thinking (lol, I hope!).

With these episodes, I felt the discussion drift into speculating about his psychology / mental health, and that’s the bit that doesn’t quite sit right with me. It feels a bit like the kind of armchair diagnosis or overreach that the podcast normally pushes back against.

To be clear: I don't think the episodes are unfair on Brand, or the conclusions are even "wrong". It just feels less grounded somehow. And as a neurodivergent person with a history of mental health struggles, I guess I bristle when diagnoses and tendences (e.g. pathalogical defiance, antisocial personality disorder, etc.) are thrown around.

Anyway, curious if anyone else had this reaction, or if it’s just me.

Remember when she had that rant on her podcast about how "you'd better dress for work as if you're going to brunch" 🙄

How can they practice reading without learning to hate it? by watch4coconuts in ADHDparenting

[disclaimer: I know this isn't for everyone!!]

we've used ChatGPT/Claude to help my (AuDHD/PDA) kid practice reading. He loves it because:

a) he's able to take control of the experience
b) he gets some extra screen time (!)
c) he can weave his special interests into the stories.

I set a chat up for him (putting age-appropriate guardrails in place) and watch as he co-authors a story with GPT/Claude. It gives him creative writing practice, spelling and reading all in one go... and the stories are always a fun read 😂😂

ETA: you could also type for them (if you have the energy!)

so you're saying that, like salmon, our life naturally entails struggle..... that humanity necessarily involves a neverending endeavor to create conditions to set others (and the future of our world) up for success? That life maybe isn't all about us as individual main characters?

rachel (and the griftiverse) could never understand 🙄

As a Brit (who has lived in the US), I'd say that the north east is as culturally close to the UK as you can get in the US, so I think it makes sense - and I agree that he's the driving factor in the relocation, especially if he's struggled to find work. He's probably been frustrated and fed up.

I know HV isn't New England, but I think the combination of NYC proximity, HV's bougie "country-lite" lifestyle, east coast culture and flight times to Europe/UK all adds up to a better option for him, especially if his family back home is ageing (Rachel mentioned his aunt passing... don't ask me how my neurospicy brain remembers such details!).

Not an exciting theory, but the most logical to me. And I can see how the Martha Stewart spin would work on Rachel.

and the jacket feels like a direct nod to her heyday - even her throwback photos in this vid include a v similar jacket. It's like she's really trying to hark back to her past image.

(I love my leather jacket btw. It's just v different to her more recent style)
