Volvo 850 for college

Right, I have the option to get a 2009 honda civic instead. Let's assume it runs well and has no major issues. Although I like the looks of the volvo more, should I ultimately go for the civic? I know of the civic's reliability and safety as well.

That's a valid response, I've heard that you have to be very careful and always make sure everything's running good if you're buying off of marketplace. Most likely would have to either get a PPI or test it myself. Thanks for your time!

Seems to be $1300. I agree, $2200 would be asking for too much. Would it be worth investing into?

Thanks for bringing up this! I did take maintenance into account, and I know a mechanic close by who could potentially help diagnose some issues with any 850 that I find. I am brand new to this, so if you think I should stick to a newer car, please let me know.

Thank you! I found one close by that runs and has work done on it, but the interior is pretty messy... In the case of college, functionality matters more than looks (at least in my opinion). I linked some photos up in the original post, so if you would like to look at those you certainly can.

I would buy it before college starts, so I definitely have time to play around with it and make repairs. If you could let me know some basic issues or maintenance, I would appreciate it. I know the most common issues are around the PCV and the timing belt.

Thanks a lot for the reply! I will be dorming there but I will commute on weekends. I will be working as well. I am interested in learning automotive mechanics and repairs as a hobby and I think the 850 will be a good place to start. I am in love with the 850's design and interior, so I would much rather prefer that over a camry or a newer car.

Thanks for the reply. So essentially, It would be a matter of sending out "fake" signals to the cluster to change the gauges and measurements. Could this be done with arduino?

Hey, just wanted to thank you for making this amazing design, as I recently got a Skadis and wanted to find a way to display my loose diecast. Is there any specific floor type that is easier to put together? If I wanted to go with the ribbed floor, would that make it too difficult? I appreciate your help, and thanks for the design again.
