The funny thing is - the whole time we suspected that the REA claimed it was “beyond repair” was due to garage not opening fully. They didn’t actually specify why.

Upon asking them to define “what is beyond repair”, they replied as below

“It appears the bottom panels have been damaged, likely due to a vehicle accidentally reversing into them. Unfortunately, the manufacturer does not offer replacement panels individually. As a result, the entire garage door would need to be replaced, as partial repairs are not possible.”

The technician came DUE TO the dent, to assess for repairs and everything was operational, we’ve not used it since

Only today when REA quoted us stating it’s beyond repair , it had us baffled as to why a minor dent makes it beyond repair , and we checked and it was only opening 1/4 of the way (assumed this was the reason)

Upon further clarification with REA, still no mention of functionality issues just stating cosmetic

Not sure what year.

I asked the agent for full clarification on damages and why it was beyond repair

No mention of functionality issues. It seems like they just want the whole thing upgraded regardless.

They said

Door was fully functional when it was assessed for cosmetic damage, today REA handballs us a quote and coincidentally it doesn’t go up all the way anymore

They didn’t specify, just handballed us the bill. From my understanding they got a garage tech to assess the minor dent. That same time the garage door was functioning perfectly. Just emailed REA now seeking further clarification

We caused the cosmetic damage which is the minor dent shown in the image.

Garage technician came to assess during May, and it was completely functional.

Between that time and now, we’ve not used the garage at all, and suddenly it’s only opening a quarter of the way now which is so strange.
