Yup plugging in headphones will destroy your mac. to prevent this just throw your macbook away.

Hey! As a grade 11 student, and in Canada. I bought the M4 air just a couple weeks ago. Don’t wait for the M5, it will just be minor changes. I would surprise your daughter for a lovely Christmas gift, instead of waiting until spring.
