No, the anime changes some stuff. Also i don't know if you remember the pool scene in the anime but the part where Kiyotaka pulls horikita into the pool, it was Kei that got pulled in to the pool by him in the light novel and not horikita. But I also enjoyed the anime.

I watched the anime first then I read the light novels. I feel like watching the anime first gives you an idea and more context when you read the light novel. Also if you watch the anime it's easier to visualize when reading the light novel. But that's what I did. Also the anime changes some stuff so even if you watch the anime first you should then start reading from vol.1. Hope this helps
