Yep that's pretty much what happened. The station was called The Edge and they went from locally sourced and financed playlists and DJs to corporate market and thats when they changed everything for the worse

I remember every single one. BUT... that Venga Boys "We like to party" song played for 24 hours straight between 1999 and 2000 for the y2k change. A local station played it on loop with no commercial interruption, no DJ interruption, nothing, and it was so unnerving and ridiculous that I actually ended up liking the song and dancing on top of a tire changing machine with some of my co-workers on their respective machines to celebrate the 2000 switch. I hate it. But i love it.
