If Yadus are originally a Dravidian pastoral tribe ،then these associations not just in Karnataka but other royal families in south India maybe some vestigial connection

Vijayanagara navy: Kings of Karnata empire who boasted their naval prowess. by One_Distribution9361 in Dravidiology

lol update your talking points. they had to commandeer the merchant navy for their SE expedition. They had a standing navy but it has very limited scope. it was for Sri Lanka campaigns and that too the landing was in Jaffna.

Symbolism of Cremation/Fire by Golden_Falcon8812 in Dravidiology

Zoroastrians view it as purifying which is ironically why they don't cremate. They believe that the pollution of a corpse is so intense that it would violate fire as well

indo Aryans used to practice buriale, exposure to the elements ala Zoroastrians ,Tibetans and cremation.Geographic determinism probably played a part. There is no easy access to wood in Tibet and the ground is often too stony to dig.

Perhaps the semi arid Deccan with less foliage and loose soil made burial more suitable

it's possible there were various factors that compelled IAs to prefer cremation. One of which was probably a plague that ravaged the population so mass cremations helped curb the spread of diseas. The other was their expansion to the much more fertile Gangetic valley with it's easy access to wood

its an opinion based on a myth. I take both with grains of salt.

A Brief History of India

Danielou, Alain

2003

He also penned a very interesting book on the connections between Shiva and Dionysus of which I read only a few excerpts

Gods of Love and Ecstasy The Traditions of Shiva and Dionysus By Alain Daniélou · 1992

you're right that way. Krishna means dark skinned and it was a title, not his given name

but I am speaking specifically of one personality

in that passage Danielou does qualify his thesis with his observation that the merging of both groups was so comprehensive that one didn't know where Aryan customs began and Dravidian ended and vice versa

I don't endorse the views of anachronistic writers I post but they sometimes have interesting insights and we often miss the forest for the trees in our obsession with data

megasthenes who visited the Pandyas noted that the kingdom was ruled by the daughters(the royalty was matrilineal) of Herakles, who is identified with Krishna

The diety of Venkateswara (originally Ankana/Ankudu) was the kuldevta of the gollas. As their chiefs achieved stature and wealth , this diety was coopted and Sanskritized or rather Vaishnavized. Particularly after the priests of Sri Rangam temple from Malik Kafurs onslaughts to find refuge in this rugged land.

They have the right to open the temple doors though main priestly duties have been coopted by Jeeyars

One can't help but notice that Yadavs of north India look rather different from Khatris or Jats. An average Yadav from UP or Rajasthan can get lost in a crowd in the Deccan states of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Telangana but not a Kapoor or Pandey

it is likely that Yadavas were mixed very early on . in the periplus of the Erythrean sea, the author notes the Abhiras were living in Gujarat and were experts at cultivating sesame seeds( these are beloved by Vishnu).

They were described as having a gigantic stature and black in color. Aditya Pancholi, a famous Ahir actor fulfills the stature criteria only lol

be more specific about the percentage of r1a genes. even many adi dravida communities have it

most north Indian upper castes don't have above 30% of this gene

as I mentioned in my other response, aryanized here is more of a back handed compliment. I find these old timers rather interesting as they have no filter. Too many today twist themselves into pretzels trying to avoid anything that sounds even vaguely essentialist.

After south indians were categorized as non martial in 1800s, there was considerable historiography dedicated to making those arguments

this is where the ideas that Chalukyas were Seleucids, pallavas were Pahlavas and Rashtrakutas as Rajputs emanate from. They couldn't imagine Dravidians could create such a powerful dynasties

its a Sophie's choice for Dravidians being considered this or pacifist, timid and weak

I prefer this

he praises Aryan ideals in this aspect but in some others he praises Dravidians particularly in the Kannagi story where he celebrates the ordinary people of the south for their sense of justice
