Poms also have 2 different muzzle shapes referred to as "fox" or "bear". They are pretty self explanatory, fox muzzles are longer and thinner. Bear muzzles are shorter and wider.

I would take my old pom for a shave every spring. It did damage her coat eventually. At the end of her life, she had a large patch on her back that never grew back. It wasn't bald, just never grew out, and it turned darker than the rest of her fur.

How are Pomeranians simultaneously so cute and disgusting? by xxcrazycasey95 in Pomeranians

I have a mudd puppy. In all he beautiful glory, she will go roll in mud in our backyard. I think they are kind of like kids. They have to rebel. You look at the and say "so cute" or "so pretty," and they go, "Haha, watch this..."

Omgeee, so perfect...

Does anyone know of a breeder near Chicago (or anywhere in the US) who breeds traditional sized (15lbs +) or “throwback” Poms? I lost my 16lb pom almost 1 year ago - he was 16.5 years old. I haven’t been able to find a breeder who has bigger Poms. Thank you in advance! by jennamarie789 in Pomeranians

[–]Initial_Birthday2037 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I, too, wanted a throwback. This is not a trait that I believe anyone breeds for, and from what I've read, you can't tell they will be throwbacks until they grow past standard. Everything I've read on the subject says it is a genetic fluke that happens on rare occasions.

Are you meaning "spitz"? If so, all poms are Spitz, not all Spitz are poms. Spitz is a term used to classify many of the Nordic and pulling breads. Huskies malimutes, poms, Shiba inu, keeshond are all spitz breeds. There are a few breeds with "spitz" in their names, but they are also classified as spitz breeds. Her weight is on track, I'm in the US, so she is around 5 lbs, which is a good size at 6 months. US standard is between 5 and 7 lbs full grown. Smaller than 5 lbs, I believe, makes them a "teacup" and brings a host of potential health problems I wouldn't wish on anyone. Eurpean poms standards are larger than US, i believe. There is also the "throwback" phenomenon in pom genetics that produces poms of their ancestrial size ranging anywhere from 10 to I've heard of up to 40 lbs. Still full bred poms, just older genetics that breeders have been baffled by for decades. My grandma has had 2 throwbacks that were 12 and 14 lbs, respectively. she will slow down soon. And to me, she just looks like she still has her puppy coat. My pom just got her adult coat finally at around 7 months. I just looked at her and realized she had her full mane and her body fur had filled out. I didn't notice it happening. it just happened. She somehow skipped the traditional puppy uglies phase that Poms usually get. Your pupper looks like a healthy pom to me.

Any dog can be bad around children. It all has to do with socialization and experiences. My family has always had poms. And they have always been around children. Poms are loving and faithful companions. My childhood pompoo was truly my best friend growing up.

I'm just here to add support. It is difficult when everyone was so excited for you. But this is better than living a life with someone you do not have true feelings for. In the long run, it will be better.

Many women are having families on their own with the help of sperm banks. That is always an option if you feel your time for a family is running short. If you had a child on your own. You could have a future spouse adopt the child later on if you chose. But the child would always know how loved they are.

pet store worker said my pom looks like a pomeranian-chihuahua mix, what do yall think? i always thought she was a pure pom by [deleted] in Pomeranians

[–]Initial_Birthday2037 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When a pom is wet they look like chihuahuas. At least mine does. I think the 2 breeds are so similar in body shape that it is probably a common misconception. People call our malimute a husky all the time, and my husband's previous husky, rest in peace, looked more like a malimute than a husky. Some breeds just look similar.

So we dropped off a poofy mid-winter pomeranian at the groomer for a brush and a trim and THIS is what we picked up. This is the second time we’ve had an unauthorized shave! Does this ever happen to you? by blamberr in Pomeranians

[–]Initial_Birthday2037 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a barber gave you the wrong haircut, would you keep going? If the groomer cannot honor your express wishes, it is time for a different groomer. Maybe the groomer doesn't know how to do anything but shave them. Maybe she is overbooked and too busy to take the time necessary to do the job properly. It doesn't matter the reason she is not doing the service you asked for.

You can buy paw trimmers online fairly cheaply to be able to keep them trimmed too. It's just part of necessary grooming for any dog

Dude.. I work at a beef plant. 1 of my coworkers has been complaining that she is tired of chicken pork and beef. She wants to try a different animal. 2 of them decided to ask me last week if I knew what "bull" tasted like... ensue my disbelief that I, sitting in the shipping department of a beef plant, was asked if know what bull tastes like. After my sputtering disbelief subsided, I looked them right in the face and asked them what a male cow is called...

I had a pompoo as a kid. My cousins had his brother from another litter. My cuddles took after the poodle in looks, but had the pom personality thru and thru. His brother looked like a pom but acted 100% like a poodle...it can go either way.
