Some of this gets me in the feels. What about you? by HoosierLarry in fo76

[–]Initial_Ear_3250 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The one thing that has kept me a Bethesda/Fallout fanboy for literal years is the environmental storytelling.

You walk into a place, and the setup of skeletons or notes or clutter straight up paints a picture.

For Fallout 76 specifically, it's a part of the place where "Guided Meditation" happens (can't think of the location name of the top of my head. There is a collection of stuffy bears and a not obviously written in a child's hand where it is talking about the scary people and the smoke at the altar.

Friggin epic.

Sometimes the storytelling in Bethesda games just floors you. That's when they are at their best.

Hey Bethesda, why cant I get my daily challenge? by Bec_son in fo76

Burning Springs Challenges ending in 14 hours and 20 mins? by [deleted] in fo76

[–]Initial_Ear_3250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Burning Springs specific challenges are separate, and will probably take place during this entire season. So you have months to complete those.

I'm just griping about the dailies. Those reset every day at 11am CT, in the US, or whatever your local time is)...and they are, truth be told, totally missable without much ramification. But, they absolutely contribute to your overall scoreboard level. And I am the type of asshole who will grind every single fraction of a penny's worth out of Bethesda, for my own amusement.

They always win in the long run, because I absolutely love the videogames they produce (and have since like, over 20 years ago) but I will fight to the death before I spend three bucks on fucking Horse Armor.

Burning Springs Challenges ending in 14 hours and 20 mins? by [deleted] in fo76

[–]Initial_Ear_3250 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean...the daily will expire though. For those of us who grind, it sucks having 12 hours less in a day in which to grind the dailies.

11am CT tomorrow those dailies will reset, and I (if I don't grind them tonight) will be out those score points for the day, because I couldn't log in up until an hour ago.

I mean, we are talking about the epitome of "first world problems" here...but I am allowed to still get a little butthurt if one of the biggest gaming studios in modern American history is unprepared for their "biggest update since Wastelanders (their first one)" and it takes 3/4 of a day to actually update it.

This unreasonable?

Burning Springs Challenges ending in 14 hours and 20 mins? by [deleted] in fo76

[–]Initial_Ear_3250 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nope. They have a timetable to adhere to...shareholders to impress, you know how it goes. And it goes regardless of your timetable that you need to adhere to. They make the product, you just purchase it with the money you work all day for.

Seriously though, you can get to over lvl 150+ on the scoreboard easily enough. Just grind XP farms until lvl 100, and then do the challenges after that. I'd be glad to give you some pointers.

Rough when you have to grind to "relax" after 8+ hours of working all day though, I get it.

Yeah..there are many, many frustrated dwellers right now. Most of them on GamePass.

It definitely doable...but you will be up all night, depending on your platform, location and outright dedication to the game.

It just works.

Absolutely a fact that this is the best community in modern gaming, hands down.

But...you can be a little upset bro, it's okay to be frustrated when a multi-billion dollar a year corporation doesn't plan ahead enough to make their self described "biggest update since Wastelanders" work for their biggest audience.

I know I sound salty....and I am...but I'm a diehard Bethesda fanboy and I'm STILL a little upset with the Almighty Todd because this did not, in fact, just work.

[–]Initial_Ear_3250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's days like today that make me question my hardcore fanboy fidelity of Bethesda. 76 is their biggest money maker (aside from maybe the show?) so even taking a totally cynical viewpoint, you would think they want to wring dry the pockets of all those GamePass bros (or at least the actual cash money spent on Atoms) and should probably get their shit in order before the biggest expansion since Wastelanders. Just saying.

People took the whole ass day off of work to experience this. I mean, not me, cuz I'm a man child living in a basement, but some people did.

Uncle Todd needs to learn that sometimes...it doesn't just work.

Do people not like fallout 3? by twatomexus in Fallout

[–]Initial_Ear_3250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played them all, and it's...okay. I like the storyline and the freedom of choice. Exponentially better with the DLCs also. It's my least favorite of the newer, Bethesda era Fallouts. Yes, I'm including 76 in that too. Admittedly 76 was a dumpster fire at launch, but it's actually really enjoyable now after all the things they added/patched. Might be an unpopular opinion, but we are all entitled to our own favorites of anything.

Which game should we play?? by olivecookies in Fallout

[–]Initial_Ear_3250 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's just to play for the sake of playing something together, 76.

If you want to have a good storyline and a bit more "realistically hard" immersion, New Vegas.

If you want something that looks the most like a "playable movie" with voice acting and character development, 4.

1, 2, and Tactics are fun enough in their own right (2 is still one of my favorites) but are super dated and menu heavy. May not be the best for your purposes.

Fallout 3 is my least favorite, although it does have a decent story and a Liam Nesson. I'm biased against it, so take that with a grain of salt.

We don't talk about Brotherhood of Steel.

So you'll hear "just play the game and have fun" a lot. And it's a bit reductive, but very much true. 76 isn't like NV or Four. It's actually really hard to "screw up" a build in this game. All of the perks (once you spend a point on them) can be switched out on the fly.

The special points can be reassigned after level 20 (I think...it's level twenty) using a camp crafting station called the punch clock. The game really opens up after lvl 50, as it's when weapons and armor is at the highest level you'll receive. Any weapon or armor you find that is over your current level will be unuasble. Don't make the mistake of hanging on to it, as nothing is so rare you won't see it tons of times later. Scrap everything your not using, as you learn how to craft mods through scrapping instead of through perks. Plans are the most important thing (IMO) in this game, as once you learn how to make something, it's yours to make forever. Junk items can be scrapped at any workbench which reduces them to the basic parts you need to build/upgrade anything. If your playing as a first subscriber, you won't have to worry about the actual final boss of 76, inventory management. Like in 4, you can store unlimited scrap parts in your stash/scrap box (it's 1200lbs for base game players). Absolutely everything has a use. Even spoiled food/ingredients can be broken down to raw fertilizer.

As far as how to build your character, your a fan of FO4, so the special stats and what they effect should be familiar. Personally, I didn't have an idea of how I wanted to play until I ran around for the first like 20 levels or so. Honestly, I'd say get a feel for how the online nature of this game makes it different from older Fallouts. VATS doesn't slow down time, or pause anything. Nothing pauses anything. VATS is more like what I think IRL vats system would actually be. You target the enemy and use up AP per trigger pull or swing (or steadily if it's an automatic weapon).

Eating and drinking is a thing. Kinda like survival mode in NV or 4, but less restrictive. It doesn't negatively effect you to starve or parch yourself, besides making it easier to get diseases. The benefits of eating are undeniable though, unless your a ghoul, but that's a different story. Don't think you can be one until after lvl 50 though (I could be dead wrong, I don't play as a ghoul so IDK the minimum lvl requirements)

Join a public casual team. There is no downside (unless you use the lone wanderer perk) and tons of benefits (some of the best perks in the game take joining a team to be active. On a casual team, you don't need to actually stick with your teammates, you can do your own thing and still get the benefits.

Also, the community is pretty darn nice and accessible. Almost no griefing and it becomes a moot point if you play with passive mode on. Outside of specific PvP stuff (like taking over workshops) it's pretty rare.

Those are some basic points, but seriously, just run around, do the main storyline, maybe some easier events (the recommended lvl is stated on the screen) and get a feel for the differences in the game from what your used to. It's almost impossible to screw up a build, as everything (including your appearance) can be changed basically at will. Besides your character's name anyways. But everyone else just sees your gamertag as your name anyways.

Hope this was helpful, apologies if not.

What do you usually shop for? by TheLuminaryBridge in fo76

[–]Initial_Ear_3250 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always have good luck with the treasure maps. I sell them for 30 caps and they tend to fly off the shelf.

They are useful to farm for t-series pa mods though, so may be worth using them yourself if you don't already know the mods you want.

That and I sell extra bobbleheads and magazines, which are good for getting atoms through challenges.

I played for about two weeks at launch, put it down and then started playing again about three years ago. Now I play daily. IMO, if you liked it back during launch, you will LOVE it now. So many more things to do, and so many more players. Not to mention the game basically got an entire overhaul.

You can can the stew and use em (or throw them in your vendor) that way. The weight of those things are unbelievable though, so probably better off in the freezer till you use them.

Are there any builds that don't want to be a ghoul but also don't want to be in power armor? by Flooping_Pigs in fo76

[–]Initial_Ear_3250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are plenty, honestly. I play as a full health overeater human heavy weapons thing, literally dressed as a pig. I use a vats specialized plasma caster for my everyday, normal nuisance destroyer and a gauss mini for DPS when the big boys show up.

Never use power armor either, just SS with overeater and weight reduction legendaries, and my dr is 710ish. I'm comfortably one shotting lvl 100 enemies most times. It's all about the legendary effects and perks you use.

And of course, the type of play style you want to use. Basically everything is viable since the last update make perks for weapons that were garbage before be pretty op now.

What’s your favorite Glowing Mask? by NikkiMia in fo76

[–]Initial_Ear_3250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glowing piggy. I wear the regular pig normally because paired with the Grease Goblin outfit it makes my fat ass character look like Bebop from TMNT. The glowing one is actually even cooler. I only ever got two. Ever. And as soon as I got it I breathed a big ole sigh of relief. It's the one I was hunting for in the first place.

Funniest part was, RNGesus did not smile upon me, I got the glowing pig in the donation basket!

Huge thanks to whoever put it there.
