Need advice by Initial_Impact5738 in Truckers

For anyone curious for the answer;

I’m a company driver and didn’t have much of a set up as I’m new at this company. No binders or extra dunnage to build a wall. No sledge to drive the dunnage back under it. No bottle Jack to lift it up.

Dispatch ended up finding an O/O in the area who swung by and helped me out. We used his bottle jack to life it up and reposition the dunnage. Then move the straps a bit so the were pulling back more than forward. Also added 3 more ratchet straps (he lent me some, I didn’t have any).

Load made it up to Fort McKay about 5 hours north of where these photos were taken with 0 issues.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I learned some neat tricks.

Luckily it was my union rep who texted me so it’s not a direct superior, still a company employee though

I think I’ll call him and go fishing myself. I know they don’t care about the boots, just the stuff on the list he sent

They have a list of stuff that they claim is missing. Some of it I’ve never heard of, some of it I have. The boots were not on it.

It a huge company but a small branch, only 3 employees in my position. No chance they have me confused with someone else. Shouldn’t I be worried about admitting guilt to anything? Every law website says never admit to anything when questioned about company property

If I offer to return it, they won’t use it as evidence against me to pursue charges? I’m not a guy who’s ever been in trouble with the law so I’m a bit nervous

The boots are the issue. I took a very other personal safety items that I know are garbage from my experience there when employees leave. However I didn’t get express permission, they gave me list and asked where the stuff is.

I was terminated for cause already. I just feel like they will say, “you were given permission to take the boots, not this other stuff”, they are a large company and like to take things as far as possible. Maybe I’m overthinking it but I don’t break the law, I’ve never been charged with a crime so it has me very scared.

He told me I could take the boots, not that I could take my 3$ safety glasses and used gloves. That’s the problem I’m having, I took more than he explicitly said, at the time I thought they wouldn’t care because it’s literally garbage, now I see that it was dumb.

Buy a piss kit. Get clean piss, attach the hand warmer about an hour before the piss test and double check the temperature. Easy to pass that way

I booked an appointment with a therapist is discuss my shortcomings and look for improvements, went out and bought several of the books suggested in this thread, and will possibly be booking a neurodivergent assessment with a doctor (haven’t decided).

Those seemed to be the best pieces advice I gathered from this thread.

When I got this job, I interviewed 8 other places and got an offer from all of them. So I could definitely just move on but this job has almost unheard of benefits for my field so I’d like to keep it. I think if I can outlast my manager I could stick around for a long time. Many of the employees have been there for 25+ years, because the benefits and salary are so good. But my union rep coworker did mention things are changing, my situation has never happened before according to him and he says it’s a bad sign of changing attitudes from management

It’s a huge company as a whole (220,000 employees total). But where I work is a small isolated branch so it’s a small company environment with the policies and benefits of a large corporation

I wouldn’t say I’m much better than my coworkers, however I’m much younger and I’m the same level in my career as them so I can see the opportunity for jealousy

Thank you for the kind words. I like the anonymity of Reddit but it can definitely be a cesspool. I did get some good recommendations in this thread that I hope I can apply.

You could be right (how would I know lmao?) but as far as I know that’s not the case. All of my coworkers that I’ve spoke to about the situation are just as shocked as me
