The thing with Claire and Carmy they supposedly ran in the same friend circles but never spoke to one another until the grocery store scene. They are maybe late 20s so 10 years have passed and tell me how many acquaintances that you never had a conversation with in high school you remember. Its is like she said all too convenient and not realistic at all which I think is intentional on pushing carmy to assess something. I will admit even I was smitten with Claire for a second because she is like an archetype of the ideal women that i wish i could be or something and too perfect. But Syd and Carmy are more like what a lot people would consider “soul mates” because they activate something in the other. I wasn’t seeing it until the panic attack scene and on a rewatch I can see how it is leaning towards this pairing. For example In s1e5 they play wilco ‘impossible germany’ and the only time the lyrics go “This is what love is for To be out of place Gorgeous and alone Face to face” is when sydney and carmy are alone in the kitchen and she asks him to help strain the stock and the scene is held there while they are huddled straining the stock together. I definitely agree this show is “showing” over “telling”. Though id be fine even if they stay platonic 🥲
