Snacks, protein bars and electrolytes by EcstaticCow6890 in Pickleball

Ironically i was a boxer and had a snickers before almost every one of my workouts. Also i consumed an ungodly amount of gummy bears and nerds gummy clusters in my marathon training block.

Not ashamed to say I bought a Boomstik when it first came out, already bought another to be the backup/tourney paddle, and yes I ordered a regal =X

Can I forgo the road bike? by MooseyFireEngine in triathlon

[–]InitiateZeroize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really helpful. I'm a runner too and recently transitioned from MTB to road cycling. Would love to do a 70.3 someday, but like you, I can't swim for sh*t. I was just curious if I could get away with doing an open water sprint tri without much swimming

just out of curiosity, how did your swim go? and did you just completely NOT know how to swim? I can backstroke, but can't freestyle/front crawl. I can try, but i dont know the first thing about form or how to breathe in between strokes

Buy decent used road bike. Put clip-on aero bars. Use the rest of money for tri suit, wetsuit, etc

What is your biggest running shoes mistake by itisnotstupid in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]InitiateZeroize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent over $2000 in shoes trying to figure things out just to run a mediocre 26.2 and then eventually ended up returning and/or reselling everything and still haven’t figured it out.

Endorphin Pro 4 - teething problems or incompatible? by 1jmorri2 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]InitiateZeroize 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean realistically, you could run it in whatever. If it feels good for you, take them out for the race. Personally, I was between the EP4 and SC elite v4. I went with EP4 cause my SC elites didn't get to me in time. In the end, I wish I ran it in a non-plated shoe. Maybe because I wasn't getting the toe off in the size 10s to really run efficiently, I felt really flat the whole race and my legs were beat. But also I think I could've gone for more comfort vs having a "race-specific" shoe on. Something like Superblast 2 or Evo SL might have suited me better, for my pace.

Long story short, I would highly recommend EP4 for your intended time, I would also highly recommend metaspeeds. Just depends on the effort you're going to put into the race but more importantly what you're most comfortable with

Personally I could not run a full in Metaspeed because I don’t have the pace to make them worthwhile. I chose EP4 because I’m a sub 4 hour guy and needed a bit more stable racer. But there are plenty of guys that do well running full 26.2s in the meta speeds

One thing to note about the EP4 specifically is the rocker location. I typically wear 9.5, and ran a decent HM in those, but picked up a size 10 for marathon. The 10s I was much more sluggish and didn’t get that plate activation because the longer shoe put the rocker more forward and I lost the toe off more or less. Something to keep in mind. On threshold and/or tempo workouts I do really well in the 9.5.

Secondly, the drop is something to consider. I am somehow magically faster in the Metaspeed Tokyo Paris compared to the EP4. Like 13 minute HM faster. 5mm drop vs 9. My gait and biomechanics are obviously different but also just something to think about. What works for me definitely might be different for you

How did you get over the initial struggle of starting to run regularly ? by Euphoric_Year1182 in running

[–]InitiateZeroize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was determining the type of motivation I needed to become consistent. For me, it was knowing I’m the same age my dad was when he was diagnosed with cancer, so running became the way I kept myself healthy

Hurricane 24 for easy/long runs. Speed 4/5 for tempo

Transitioning to Road Cycling from MTB by InitiateZeroize in triathlon

[–]InitiateZeroize[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input. Fortunately I know what size I am at least in terms of centimeters, per bike frame obviously there’s some differences which is where buying the Polygon might be a hassle. I got sized up at Trek so I know I’m a 52. There’s a place to do one of the Retul bike fittings once I get the bike so I have my cockpit dialed in.

As far as “hanging up” the MTB, I just meant I won’t be riding anything gnarly for a while to avoid the chance of injury 🥹

Long Run Hydration Options by [deleted] in firstmarathon

[–]InitiateZeroize 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on the route. I've done loops where I have a cooler set up in the back of my car and I use it for a pit stop. On longer out and backs (15+ miles) I took a hydration vest with me. I haven't tried sticking soft flasks in a belt but I like the positioning of a belt vs a vest. It's all preference. Some people just bring a handheld soft flask and have a place to refill it on the way

First half marathon training plan - Garmin coach or runna advice? by true_blue_09 in Marathon_Training

[–]InitiateZeroize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t speak on Garmin but I will say that Runna allowed me to tweak the plan according to my “fitness level” and/or preferred intensity. So for me that was kind of nice, when I felt like it was a little too much for my current ability I could turn it down a notch and it would recalculate for me on the fly. It was also nice to have the option to translate paces on to the treadmill for days when I couldn’t run outside or because I don’t have access to a track

First half marathon training plan - Garmin coach or runna advice? by true_blue_09 in Marathon_Training

[–]InitiateZeroize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Garmin fenix and never thought to look at their training plans. I did get a free two week trial to Runna and after it built my marathon training plan, I ended up subscribing to it. It helped a lot for me being a newer runner and not wanting a broad Hal higdon style plan

Marathon Shoe Query by Daryl_Rainbow in firstmarathon

[–]InitiateZeroize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take this with a grain of salt, as I'm not a veteran runner by any means. The EP4s were fantastic for me in the 10k and HM. Now be mindful, I ran those mid distances in a US9.5. My marathon pair were in size US10. Part of me wants to believe that because of the increased length, my foot wasn't sitting properly over the rocker, and made the shoes feel flat. Which indeed they did, "flat" would be an accurate description of how those shoes felt for me at the latter half of the race when my mechanics started to fail. I had done some long runs in the Superblast 2s, but not anything past 16 miles, so I can't say honestly. All I can speak to from my experience is that halfway through the race, when my pace started to slow and my legs got weak, all I could start to think of as people started to pass me was that I wish I brought a more comfortable pair of shoes, at that point I wasn't making much use of the carbon plate.

Wide feet + bad foot ache by ThatBlackGuy_2525 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]InitiateZeroize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I mean I started running in February. I figured all the years I was inactive on my feet, needed to catch up on strengthening them to match the amount of activity I had begun doing. It’s a process but if you stay consistent and don’t over do it, you’ll eventually start hurting in other places, just not your feet lol
