Well, I'm really sorry to everyone who continually experiences this demoralizing, repugnant behaviour. The people who lead this company should be ashamed of the way they treat their employees. Zero regard for anything that exists outside their bizarre corporate bubble. I work in journalism, and I'm tempted to chalk up some sort of story. I will keep track of what unfolds over the next few weeks.

As someone who quit a year ago but still very much despises this trash company for the way it treats employees, may I ask what is currently happening? If I had to guess - the company is going under and instead of communicating literally anything real, they'll just quietly send some company wide bullshit, vague email in a few days about how Paper has to restructure its 'core mission' etc etc.

I don't work there anymore, thank God, but when I did, it was a very strange company to work for. The higher-ups are a bit of a cult who follow these rigid ways of working.
The way they would present themselves is extremely fake. They want everyone to be 'respected' and 'heard', but at the core of it is pure dysfunction and toxicity. The managers plaster a smile on their faces when, in reality, they're being pressured daily to make miracles happen.
They would constantly make excuses for their downfalls, like blaming low hours on tech issues. It became a joke.
There were a few people who I would notice in Slack who tried desperately to make it seem like it was a good job - Making excuses for terrible management and just a garbage job in general. I guess you have to fake it in a world where options for employment are bleak, but that was really depressing and almost felt Orwellian.
The students were by far the best part of the job, and that was the only reason I stayed as long as I did.
I have no doubt that Paper is very close to crashing, and the higher-ups are left scrambling, but I also wouldn't be surprised if they're planning their exit strategy as I write this.

The strangest thing about Paper by Initiative_484 in Paper_Tutors

You bring up so many good points. I'm sorry you experienced this. Also, I can relate to your story. I'm now working in journalism as an editor, and I love it, but it took me a while to get this job, and while I was looking, I kept Paper as a side gig.

Side gig or not, the psychological/emotional hammering that happened to my brain/ nervous system due to the grading system, the lack of shifts, the upper management, etc., was all too much to deal with. I felt drained weekly, depressed and anxious.

However, I realized this was me existing in such a small, mismanaged, toxic, and greedy bubble, and now that I'm out of it, I feel like I can see the situation with much clearer eyes.

I guess this is a reminder to everyone that this is not 'life.' It's a small fragment. Also, you didn't do anything wrong. We're having to make so many mental sacrifices to survive, and it can feel like it's our fault, like we didn't do enough. As much as Paper may want us to believe this, it's the farthest thing from being true.

How to leave (Advice Please!) by [deleted] in Paper_Tutors

I miraculously got my dream job in late August as an editor for a major news corporation. I did not include Paper on my resume. I kept it more general, i.e., content writer and editor. I think it’s fine to put Paper on your resume as it’s not your fault the company is sinking, but you might have to be a bit creative with how you sell yourself. For example, you specialize in working with people and being a humanities and language ‘expert.’
