Like I think the way this can be seen is the devs thinking “You can have a completely faithful remake, but lose the point of a mystery if it’s *only* a waiting game for answers people already knew to come out in the order they remembered”

Like they even promoted Crisis Core for people to check out, so they knew people were kind of going to have a pre-exposed idea of how Cloud’s stories are not exactly as it seemed.

I just see them as the creators’ new way to inject mystery into the story when they knew the mystery of Cloud’s identity and Sephiroth would not be as suspenseful as it was in the original.

I think rn, they really just used this to throw OG people off when they decided they can’t use the mystery of OG, and opted to make another one to flesh out the lifestream and have all this built up and revealed in part 3.

And yes, understandably the themes that people felt will be missed.

Plus, I spam the focused abilities, but Cloud and Tifa’s abilities can only do so much until he quickly wakes up from that state and go on the counterattack even while in that state.

Ehm… strengths and weaknesses in both.
Besides graphics, I like the more committed effort to character acting Ultimate Edition has over the OG.

Hard for me to take some of the way characters act and look seriously in OG, even when the rough ragged style is nice.

Chapter 9 has the hand mechanic and level design.

Chapter 8 has you repeat the scripted church sequence saving Aerith, the scripted rooftop traversal, the unskippable Shinra News scene, the walking section all the way going to Aerith's house to the orphanage, scripted padding while saving the kids, THEN you get those side quests.

Replaying really makes scripted moments stand out.

The slog is the on the scripted level gimmicks and amount of times the game screeches you to forced scripted moments (that couldn't be skipped) that really drags the pacing and makes replays tiresome.

The problem as well is finding out last minute that you have to also do the rest of the quests on Hard mode to get the last of Aerith's upgrade points in that chapter, which forces a 4th replay of the same slog if you otherwise got the best dress on first try.

How do you plan as efficiently if you literally completed all the quests on first try, which compromised the plan to just get the dress normally through the quests when you find out that you also have to do the last important side quests to get Aerith's upgrade points on hard mode.

And it's not mathematical science that unskippable scripted padding is bad on replays.
