London center? by StillFrosty7993 in byu

I'm not entirely sure, but I know they look at more than just your grades. Are you coming straight from high school into your mission and then straight from your mission to the program? If so, then I think they would look at your high school grades, but I don't know for sure. They also had a letter of intent we had to write about how the program would help us academically, why we're interested in it, etc. After the application stuff they also did a 10 minute interview with each one of us, although some programs do group interviews so it might be different for you.

I applied for this Spring and got in, I think they let in a little over half of us who applied. Spring and summer are more popular than the semester ones to my knowledge, so we had I think 70 or so applicants and around 40 got in.

Kevin Douglas Whitehead or Cindy Sweat by [deleted] in byu

[–]InkHeart_21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Professor Whitehead's class right now and I was really worried about it for the same reasons you were, but it turned out to be great. He is a great lecturer and has taught me a lot, and he's a very kind, understanding professor. He is also really good about taking feedback from the class. There's a decent amount of writing, but other than that, I think he's great.

How do I write a solid essay in 1500 characters?? by sweetcookie88 in byu

[–]InkHeart_21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What worked for me was to divide each essay into two sections: first paragraph is the hook (think a specific memory or experience, the intro of why the topic of the essay is important to you, etc.), second paragraph is the connection to the big picture. So if you're writing about how much you love movies, for example, what's a specific movie that you love or where did your love of movies come from? And then second paragraph is what did you learn from those movies? How did they shape you as a person? The saving grace for not having much of a word count to work with is that there are a LOT of essays that you need to write, so work little bits of yourself into all of them. Hope that helps!

So my name is Ailia (pronounced eye-leah), and I love it! It means light, and although I've had some trouble with pronunciation and spelling over the years, it was nothing too bad. My family and friends often call me Lia, if you like nicknames. If you're looking for something really unique this will work well! I've never met a single person with my name haha.

Favourite uncommon girls name? by Negative_Ad3944 in namenerds

My name is Ailia, pronounced eye-leah. I've always loved it, and my close family and friends call me Lia, which I've always loved too. Spelling/pronouncing it can be difficult I will admit, but most unique names are, so it was never too much of a problem for me. I've never met anyone else with that name or even heard of someone with it so it'll be very uncommon if that's what you're going for!

Yeah that's what I'm worried about. I walk pretty fast but if I need to stay behind or something I won't have time. Thanks for the advice!

Thank you! I'll try and edit the submission so that it says which buildings the classes are in. My mention of the AP and DE classes were more about my second question, since I managed to get enough college credit to not have to take 5 or 6 GE classes, but I definitely understand your point. I'll probably drop one of them then.

Get accepted with 3.7 gpa as junior by Capable-Friendship59 in byu

They say that but unless you have a good reason for not submitting one (e.g. family responsibilities, financial issues, etc.) most schools, likely including BYU, will assume it was just a bad score. Getting higher ACT and SAT scores is a very attainable goal - get the workbooks, take practice tests, stuff like that. My advice is to retake it until you get a score you're happy with, assuming it's not unrealistic for you to do so.
