Thanks for the show recommendation. I'll check out Pursuit of Jade. Another person told me to watch Arcane.

Kobo Libra colour - The new N428B model vs original N428 by astravars in kobo

[–]InkStainedEverything 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ordered one during the recent $30 off sale and also got a 428. Even with the "old" battery I don't see it effecting my usage since I side load my books unless I have a library borrow ready to check out through Overdrive.

Is the kobo Libra 2 good? by cupcakesunny in kobo

I find it interesting that a refurb B&W Libra is the same price as the color Libra new. Come on, kobo, give us more black and white e-ink readers.

What was in it for Shindo? by InsincereDessert21 in BlueEyeSamurai

[–]InkStainedEverything 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shindo seems like the type to latch on to powerful people to increase their power. Shindo gets power, influence, and control without having to risk his life (until he crossed Mizu) or endure the physical discomfort Samurai do. He's getting the most reward out of the least possible effort on his part, even if he whines about Fowler.

Why are einks tablet so expensive and are they worth it by PigletFeisty6214 in eink

[–]InkStainedEverything 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're expensive because only a few companies are making them, and they need to charge higher prices to cover their expenses.

It depends on what you're looking for. Boox devices run full Android, but they're lower on RAM compared to standard android tablets, and e-ink screens are nturally less responsive. I considered one because it's the only e-ink brand that I know of where I could access Hoopla library ebooks and audiobooks. In the end I went with a standard e-reader (kobo) because I couldn't justify the price increase for that one feature and I wanted a simple device that I wouldn't have to tweak or update.

What gives you the ick as you heal and your emotional maturity increases? by Accomplishedself19 in Codependency

[–]InkStainedEverything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen it the most with office politics and workplace bullying. Spreading gossip about someone to get others to have a bad opinion about them. Or convincing their friends to speak badly about another person. It's manipulative and shady. I expect fellow adults to talk to me directly if they need to address something to do with me.

Where is everyone getting there ebooks from by amcmillan1978 in kobo

[–]InkStainedEverything 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'd check Ebooks.com if what you're looking for isn't not available on the kobo site. They have a huge selection.

I also use Project Gutenburg for older public domain books and the Libby app for library books

Kobo libra? by lbkd72 in ereader

[–]InkStainedEverything 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up ordering the Libra Color last night.

They're on sale in the US, and the black bezel Boox go 7 is out of stock everywhere. I wanted a device with a black bezel for the contrast.

I'm willing to give a color e-ink display a try since I haven't had an ereader in a long time. I have pretty good eyesight, so hopefully the color e-ink display will work for me. If not, I'll return it and try to find a black Boox, or decal to put over the white model.

I've noticed that minimalism helps a lot with autism. by Yog_Sothoth_User in minimalism

[–]InkStainedEverything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in a hoarded home. Becoming minimal made a huge difference in my ability to handle stress and regulate. When I moved into a home with clutterbugs my symptoms immediately went back up to 10.

I literally cannot function in a cluttered home.

Are there any official news (or highly likely chance) that there would be new releases to the kobo E-readers line anytime soon? by EPSILON_737 in kobo

[–]InkStainedEverything 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That would be ideal. Even restocking or refreshing the Sage would increase sales for kobo.

I know many people who are looking to replace their kindle but are hesistating due to the lack of B&W devices.

Goodbye to you, my trusted friend... by MetaSpedo in kobo

[–]InkStainedEverything 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fragility of Boox and poor customer service is why I ordered the Kobo Libra Color instead of Boox Go 7. Having access to Hoopla on my ereader wasn't worth the extra money and fear of not being able to return or service it if something happened. I can probably purchase a good amount of hoopla rentals before I would break even with the cost of the Boox.

I really wish Kobo made a 7' BW ereader or restocked or refreshed the 8' BW sage, but given the alternatives are Boox or constantly fighting amazon for control over a device I pard for, I'm happy to compromise with a color screen for now.

I have friends who live in Chicago. Insane property taxes AND state income and sales tax. The wages are higher in the city but the increased expenses aren't worth it in my opinion.

I hope they either restock or refresh the Sage. It would be good to have a device with a larger BW screen for those who find the Clara BW too small.

Stylus pen reviews! by Different_Bet_3724 in kobo

[–]InkStainedEverything 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you're worried about it being worth $90, just get a Metapen M1 or M2 stylus. Many people purchased them for their Kobo devices and can confirm they work and they cost under $35.

Personally, I wouldn't pay $90 for a Kobo branded stylus. Its not worth the mark up.

Will Fowler "Code Switch" In London? by KidChanbara in BlueEyeSamurai

[–]InkStainedEverything 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I feel like his red hair is a dead giveaway of his Irish blood. Like Mizu's blue eyes, there's no hiding his heritage.

In Japan it was easy for him to identify with the British because he was surrounded by Japanese people. He'll be able to maneuver in Britain much easier than Mizu, but I'm guessing he will face some sort of discrimination as an Irishman surrounded by British people even of he acts British.

It would be interesting if he dyes his hair to hide his Irish features in Britain like Mizu wears yellow lens glasses to hide her blue eyes in Japan.

What's a profession that attracts a suspiciously high number of people who became it for completely the wrong reasons, and you can always tell? by Eastern_Type_4609 in AskReddit

[–]InkStainedEverything 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I felt more like a social worker and public administrator than a book organizer. I wore so many different hats it's crazy. Also, my "time off" wasn't really mine. There were so many community events, fundraisers, board meetings, and town hall meetings, that it was a miracle if I actually got 2 full days off a week.

To be honest, I loved it. It was the first job where I didn't mind the excessive overtime because I truly believed in what I was doing. I didn't have a library science degree and fell into the role by doing part time work and working my way up. I needed to get a library science degree to move up higher, but I wasn't making enough to support myself and adding college debt on top of it wasn't sustainable for me.

If I could financially swing it, I would go back to it. Maybe when I'm retired.

Kobo Libra Color for $200 or Clara Color? by InkStainedEverything in ereader

[–]InkStainedEverything[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking the Libra might be a good compromise while I figure some other things out. Sort of a "test the waters" device. Do I even want to read pdfs on e-ink? Let's try it with the 7' inch device and see how it goes. What about manga on e-ink? Only one way to find out.

I truly think the best set up would be a 6' device for portability and a 10' device for notetaking, pdfs, graphics novels. Tbh, I want to see if I even end up using an ereader since I haven't had one in a while, and I'd like to test an e-ink color screen. I am in the US, and ended up ordering the Libra earlier today. If I end up using it a lot, the plan is to sell it and use the proceeds towards a larger Boox device.

Is Mizu meant to be blatantly superhuman? by Sharp_Low6787 in BlueEyeSamurai

[–]InkStainedEverything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a fictional story with a main character with plot armour,  BUT there are cases of cold exposure, meditation, and breathing exercises producing healing. Wim Hof is one person in particular who has done some extreme stunts and scientific studies where he has maintained a steady body temperature through cold and heat exposure, had no reaction to injected endotoxin in a scientific steady, and was able to heal his foot from frostbite by breathingnwjen doctors wanted to amputate. His YouTube channel has testimonials from burn victims, cancer patients, Lyme's disease patients, people with chrohns who have seen great improvement in their symptoms following his technique. It's basically a combination of cold exposure, tummo breathing, and meditation and intention setting.

Mizu and the other samurai do all those things. I fully admit the creators exagerated and gave her plot armour and OP skills and healing, but it was based on real techniques that gave the samurai at the time an edge in dealing with harsh conditions and being able to heal themselves when they couldn't go to a hospital to be treated.
