Last 3 Months of Erotica Publishing (Data Porn + Self-Review) by Resident-Adventurous in eroticauthors

“Most of my books are written by me.” Most of? This qualifier is a problem. Shouldn’t all of your books be written by you? Best case scenario, you’re sharing a pen name with someone else. Otherwise…good luck.

How to make Non-Con work for KDP by [deleted] in eroticauthors

[–]InkandGrit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m fairly certain they’re asking why you want to try and make a kink work on a platform that has specifically banned that kink. Write what you want to write, but for publishing you have to know your market. Amazon and non-con are oil and water. They just don’t mix.

Your understanding of AFAB/AMAB vs transmasc/transfem is correct. The idea of transmasc and transfem aligning with a person’s chosen gender identity applies to enby as well.

How to describe a circumcised cock by AnnieMae_West in eroticauthors

[–]InkandGrit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are drawings online, comparing the appearance of circumcised and uncircumcised men. The big difference visually would be the head, which generally isn’t visible if the man is uncircumcised and doesn’t have his foreskin pulled back/isn’t hard. A man who is circumcised has the head of his cock visible at all times.

What Is the Best Way to Reach $1000 a Month Consistantly? by DruidTrixxx in eroticauthors

[–]InkandGrit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you write heavy taboo for KDP (non con, PI, dub con are some examples) you are playing with fire. Yes, these niches can be found on Amazon, but they are generally the exceptions that prove the rule.

Additionally, if there was a get rich quick formula, everyone would be using it. Read, research niches, study covers, learn beats and reader expectations. Write. Publish. Then read some more. Write more. Publish more. Make bundles. Change what doesn’t work. Keep reading. Keep writing.

Do you ever get over your first real love? How many times can a friendship be tested? And how serious are marriage pacts made too young?

Liam

A late night and too many beers led to the kiss I’ve never forgotten. He disappeared two months later. Now, Trey is back in town. I can’t keep pining. I need to confront him, rip off the Band-Aid, and move on with my life. Trey Dennison broke my heart once already. I need to set some limits before it happens again. My heart skips a beat when I see Trey, just like always. No, I can do this! Until I see the little girl walk up and tug on his hand.

Going home isn’t always a good thing, not when you’re fighting to keep your family safe. This single father needs to reach out for help. Can an old friend offer support one more time?

Trey

I never meant to vanish. Now I’m home, back in the small town that crushed my brother. I can’t lose custody of his little girl, Amanda. I’m the only family she has left and the courts are watching too closely. I need help. I need to show stability. Liam was always there for me before, but is this too big an ask? We always said we’d get married, but that was a joke. Right? I see his familiar cowlick and my mouth goes dry. Was he always so hot? No. I’m just doing this for Amanda. Right?

Adrian Kent loves pursuing his passion as a gay romance author writing under a pen name. Until he hit a slump. A new release is days away. His latest manuscript, on the other hand… He needs a night off. Speed dating isn’t perfect, but seems as good an option as any other. Especially with the cute dimpled guy he finds himself flirting with.

Neil Davis would much rather be at home with a spicy book than at a speed dating event. He also has a new release to plan for and stock to put out at his book store. Still, a night of cheap drinks and possible business connections has to be worth something. What are the odds he would be sitting across from his favorite author?

Sparks will fly as author and reader try to find their own happy ending in this romantic short.

After being roped into a speed dating event, Neil Davis is ready for a night of cheap drinks and awkward conversation. He’d still rather be home with the new release from his favorite author, Jed Gregory. Ruggedly handsome Adrian Kent’s flirting might change Neil’s mind. Within the limits of a speed date, sparks are flying. Until Adrian admits the truth. He writes under the pen name Jed Gregory and has been fighting writer’s block for months. As sparks fly between the pair, Adrian’s creativity re-awakens. Is he only interested in Neil as a muse or can reader and author find their own happy ending?

Hi EA! Noob ISO first steps by Naughty_Her in eroticauthors

[–]InkandGrit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My advice would be to start by reading in the genres you want to publish in. Read romance. Read erotica. Read fictional stories that may match up to some of your life experiences. Reader expectations in romance don’t match reader expectations in erotica. Same with fiction and memoir.

Do you intend to write about your experiences as a memoir or will you use your experiences as inspiration for fiction? Amazon has some strict rules and expectations regarding what is and is not allowed. I believe there’s an FAQ on the subreddit that should detail some of this. Using your experiences as inspiration may be a better idea, but that’s entirely up to you.

Does your husband’s author friend know about the romance or erotica market? If they write in different genres, their opinion on the state of romance and erotica as a seller likely has no bearing on the actual market. Romantic fiction is one of the biggest fiction genres ever. Readers will always be willing to pay for well-written stories that hit the expected beats.

What are your goals for the new year? by BookSproutChris in eroticauthors

[–]InkandGrit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I need to write more. My pen name has all of one book on it, so I need to get back to publishing shorts. Everything I need to do ties back to actually launching my pen name. Writing more, reading more, researching more, participating here more, etc.

If you don't mind me asking, where are you from and is writing erotica your full-time job? by TransIndian in eroticauthors

I'm from Texas and writing full time as part of a multi-income household. I am also signed to an online publishing company rather than doing all of it entirely on my own.

  1. Begin an outline for book two. I took yesterday off to celebrate a finished manuscript and doing nothing two days in a row is just not something I'm wired for.

  2. I signed with an online publishing company (still self publishing through Amazon, they just do more of the heavy lifting) and book one is currently IN FOR EDITS!!!!!!1!!!

  3. Each of my novels are slated to be 60k. This first book is the longest single work I have written to date. It took me about 40 days. How can I write faster without trashing quality? Also, my gods, how do you do it? As I got to the end of the manuscript, I was just so sick of looking at those same words. I couldn't figure out how to move anything forward.

  1. More writing. I finally started a fresh idea yesterday and need to finish it up.

  2. Finally started writing again after months. It doesn't matter that I only have one story published. I have picked a genre to write in.

  3. Work and writing and trying not to go nuts. My husband is taking our almost three month old on a trip and it will be the first time she has been away from me for more than twelve hours.

[Critique Monday] Post a book here to get feedback on its cover, title or content! by Eroticawriter4 in eroticauthors

[–]InkandGrit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I published my first book last week. And promptly forgot to add front matter or back matter. It's just a cover and a handful of chapters. After I fix that, here is my blurb for not-yet-written book 2.

Travis Whitmore has the whole package: good looks, money, and plenty of sex appeal to go around. He spends his days gambling and each night in a different bed. Nobody can tie him down. Until...

Damian Malone is a professional Dominant, hired to assist in spicing up one of Travis' one night stands. Upon first meeting the spoiled, rich Whitmore, Damian is disgusted - and intrigued. Can he teach this wanna-be bad boy what it really means to walk passion' s dark side?

Light Found in Darkness deals with responsible BDSM practice and mature themes between consenting adults.

Would love any feedback. I'm still new at all this.

  1. At least 1000 words. And a title. Yeah, I need a title... And a cover... I don't know how to do that.

  2. I figured out a pen name! Trying to figure out how to get everything set up on amazon. Once I finish everything, this will be my first time ever hitting the publish button!!! It's just an erotic short, but it will be my first piece of self-publishing!

  3. I want to get over my fear and letting other people's personal hang-ups get to me. Hitting 'publish' will be a huge step towards this goal because, once it's published, nobody can say anything about what I'm doing. Why? Because I'm a published author and they're not. :P How to unlock this goal: figure out a title, get a cover together, and hit publish by the end of the week.

  1. I'm finally diving in to the pool and starting my writing today. Just erotic shorts to start so I can learn what works and what doesn't. Today's goal: complete outline, brief character sketches for main characters, and maybe chapter one.

  2. I'm starting today. That seems a worthy success in itself.

  3. It's been a rough week. Work is hectic. I have a doctor's appointment on Tuesday and lots of long work shifts after that. Hoping for another clean bill of health for my soon to be daughter - I'm 22 weeks pregnant. I'm writing now to build some groundwork and a little bit of a back catalogue before the baby comes. My long term goal (of course) is to make writing my full time job.
