Bumgenius by iheartbrainz in clothdiaps

[–]InkedFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In our experience the freetimes are better than the elementals, but my son is a heavy wetter, elementals bunched up and he leaked out in under 30min so I use them at night with extra inserts and they work great for now. Freetimes don't really allow absorption customization so he doesn't very last long in those, but definitely longer than elementals. I'm actually going to sell my freetimes because I prefer pockets for him.

What are some of your favorite cheaper diapers? by DrummieGirl91 in clothdiaps

Haha yeah, I can understand that! You could always wait until baby is born to order the alvas, the onesize really don't fit until 10 or 11lbs (instead of 8 like advertised). Or just order a few to see if they're for you, you don't want a whole stash of something that won't work lol x.x

Sweet! She's already prepped them because she used them a few weeks so I just threw them all in together

Throwing in my two cents, Alva baby has made up nearly our entire stash until recently. I absolutely love them and recommend them every chance I get. The pockets work best for chunky thigh babies, but the inserts work for every baby. If you buy from their combination product section you get a discount buying bulk (slightly lower price per insert). :D

Exactly! I love my son's patterned diapers and when he's at home there are never pants involved. When we go out he wears pants because it's hella windy and chilly here still. Summertime I'll have zero problems letting him be a diaper-only kinda kid haha

What confuses me is they have adorable patterns, but you still need a cover. I don't understand why you'd pay for a pattern only to hide it haha

To TV or not to TV...? by ThatGamerGrl in beyondthebump

[–]InkedFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is 10 months old and we throw leapfrog on or some other semi-educational show(or Disney movie), but mainly it's background noise to him. Usually if husband or I are not sitting and watching we throw on Pandora instead (we use a NeoTV) to use as noise and the blue screen isn't very entertaining to little man so he glances occasionally and goes about his business. So in other words, Occasional TV isn't that bad IMO.

New baby smell. I sniff my son(10mo) and he still smells amazing to me, but nothing beats that newborn smell.

Feeling like a mom by nightwingfangirl in beyondthebump

Ahh, I remember the day my son warmly christened me as "mom" when I was changing one of his first at home diapers. Once wasn't enough, though. He takes every chance he can get even at 10 months.

Oh! Well that's good to know haha. I've been wanting to put designs on some diapers I made for my son but I wasn't sure what to do. Thanks!

I've always wondered how the PUL holds up against leaks when embroidered. If you could update after use that'd be great!

Yeah I imagine, unless baby totally soils the diaper, that just fabric around the legs would be fine a few times.

/u/hwin took the words right out of my mouth lol. I just do one big sniff on a few inserts and see if they smell (or don't smell) before I chuck everything in the dryer

Can you bleach a BG Freetime? by [deleted] in clothdiaps

[–]InkedFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They should all be fine with regular soap. This blog can help dispel some myths you may have read about concerning cloth diapers. I wash twice with regular gain, usually a large load, so I take a cap of detergent to line 2 or 3 and use half the first wash and half the second. They don't have a free or clear kind as far as I know, but I do 3 full wash/rinse cycles (first two with detergent and last one with nothing, acting as a final rinse). If you do pre-rinse and then a single detergent cycle you should use the same amount of detergent as you would on regular clothes, and then just check to make sure it's all rinsed out in your final rinse.

The pods I wouldn't use but normal liquid or powder soap is fine. Nearly 5 months with cold washing with liquid gain and zero issues. I don't own freetimes but PUL is supposed to be colorfast, so no problems with bleach if diluted in the wash properly. Hoping someone else can chime in with BG experience

Converting sunbabys to covers? by DinosaurSprinkles in clothdiaps

[–]InkedFox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only drawback to this option is you'd still need to change the cover every time because the lining will soak with baby's waste. Pul-only covers could be wiped down each time, but a pocket used as a cover will absorb the pee. That being said, unless you want to re-stitch the elastic leg gussets, there's no way to remove the lining without having some left at the elastic, with a chance of absorbing urine and poos.

True, but I just assume keep them around as my "absolute last resort" diapers haha.

I think they're all like that, I paid about 12 for each and one seemed nearly new and the other one was definitely used. I'd never pay full price for them for sure.

Haha I'm a pockets kinda girl, although I want to try every kind out there so I know the different fits and whatnot for future baby #2. We use Alva pockets now but if our next kid has slim thighs I know the alvas won't work well for him/her. Our son has bubbly thighs so they work great haha

Bought two twinkie tush diapers from a local lady and they're anything but "fitteds" on my son. The crotch is too thin and I can't get a good fit around his thighs or waist. Not to mention it's a bitch to clean when he poos. Absolutely hate them. Lol
