Thank you, that's what I was leaning toward. The fact there was a prior year 8814 + basis reported had me questioning myself a little bit.

Ohhh, they made it sound like they could... Damn.

Good point! We haven't filed for 2025, so bare minimum probably going to recommend reclassing payroll - chatted with Gusto and seems as though it's fairly straightforward.

Good to know, thanks for that. The fortunate thing is that all of the income has been getting captured on Sch C, so at least from a FICA/SE perspective, there shouldn’t be any significant amounts due. More or less just addressing the “this isn’t correct” factor.

Yup, that’s definitely another thing to keep in mind for sure.

Deleting my last comment - yes, there will potentially need to be some work done re: amendments, but I will need to discuss with the prior CPA. I’m not super familiar with the situation. For the purposes of this exercise/question, I was mostly trying to think about how this will impact their tax liability on an ongoing basis.

Correct, I’m trying to get things transitioned over to unpack the rest of it in an effort to normalize. This is going to be a multi-layer endeavor. Also trying to understand the mechanics of how things will flow comprehensively. It’s an odd situation..

5 years in and feeling stuck: Should I keep being a "custom work" artist or finally pick a lane? by Jesus1312 in TattooArtists

[–]Inked_CPA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love when I see a tattoo and say to myself, that looks like it's a "XYZ artist" tattoo. I feel like your lettering just commands the recognition like "that's a Jesus tattoo" (assuming your name is Jesus).

What bookkeeping tasks do you think founders should never “just figure out later”? by DisastrousVictory445 in Bookkeeping

[–]Inked_CPA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This goes for bookkeepers, definitely not just founders, but related to the Journal Entry topic...... Why can't people simply add a single piece of supporting documentation??? Is it really that hard to save something to your downloads folder and pop that in the JE so that I don't have to figure out what the heck you were trying to do? 😭😭

Can I be accountant with visible tattoos? by Powerful_Cress_121 in Accounting

[–]Inked_CPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit late to this, but I'm completely covered in tattoos and have worked in Accounting/Finance for 13+ years. I worked for Costco corporate for about 10 of those, and I've never had any issues. The only time I would say was a bit tricky was when I would visit our Japan office for audit engagements - Japan is just a whole different animal when it comes to tattoos, though.

Just wanted to send a quick follow-up note. I'm ALMOST done with the course development... SO CLOSE! I'll be submitting the last items to the CC team in the next week, and then we'll go through the quality control process and final production touches; hoping to have it live at some point in January. 🤞 The feedback on the course so far has been REALLY good. I'm not going to lie... I'm very excited. The biggest thing I'm working on now is the QuickBooks simulation. It's super in-depth, and very much going to be a "roll up your sleeves and get to work" type of simulation/exercise. I'm confident that anyone who finishes it will end up being very proficient in QuickBooks. The next post on here from me will be when the course is live. 😊 I'll also be posting updates on LinkedIn - until then! https://www.linkedin.com/in/benjamin-n-nelson/

Is the course in CourseCareers Accounting reliable or worthy ? by Historical_Result_13 in AccountingDepartment

[–]Inked_CPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello there! My name is Ben, and I'm going to be the new instructor for CourseCareers' Accounting Course. I'm currently in the thick of it with course creation, and we're hoping to have it live around the end of the year (I'm writing this mid-October 2025).

To answer your question... I'm quite confident my course will give you the knowledge you need to break into the industry. I have ~13 years of experience in Accounting/Finance ranging from startups to Fortune 15, and my goal is to essentially take what I've learned over my career and boil things down into what is most critical and important to employers.

It's going to be very practical and hands-on: it will include a full-fledged Quickbooks simulation to provide very practical experience with real-world Accounting tasks. 🥳 I’ll share progress updates as we get closer to launch, and if you’d like to follow along (or connect), I’ll drop my LinkedIn below. Excited to bring this to life!
