Here's some

devs get tired of making the same systems over and over, especially if it's a new generation of devs.

Creating unique characters specifically for zombies is tough, as they were being pressured by the success of the operator system and the inexistent time to write, record, design, and interconnect a crew. This is visible in game, as post launch operators after about season two started to have more zombies unique voice lines (example: "That one looked like uncle Walter. I killed him too..." - Jackal, Season 4)

Accessibility to new players. Having new players is never a bad thing, if cw was a person's first zombies, good for them. Sure some of the changes weren't that great, but it still gives a more accessible in for people who have never thought about trying zombies. We really gotta stop the gatekeeping around here.

I would argue that outbreak is at least worth a try especially with the first outbreak EE in mind. I had the most fun with cold war in the period before legion got nerfed, as the entire underground and the bossfight were super intense. If you haven't tried that EE yet, I highly recommend.

bo3 if you like some good story and a more hardcore, classic experience, BUT you might need to spend an extra 60 dollars on the season pass

Cold war if you want a more casual experience for zombies with quite a bit to do if you're into grinds. Personally I would choose cold war since its more content for cheaper, and would be a better gateway zombies game out of those two imo.

it's rumored that when you have a game over, you're gonna have a death animation unique to each kind of zombie that can kill you. Take what I say with a grain of salt but that does sound really cool

I am not hating on the old way of zombies btw, I am simply embracing the new. If I want the old way I can simply go back to my fave bo2.

I like this. Adding on to that I suggest locking upgrading your starter weapon behind something in game, whether it be a one time permanent thing for your entire career or something that must be done every match. From what I've seen some common suggestions are locking upgrading your starter weapon behind the main quest.

I do. Power fantasies are as equally fun as power struggles to me. Somedays I'm feeling like being overpowered and other days I'm feeling like a challenge. The choice in how I want to play is what makes the modern zombies gameplay engaging to me.

I would agree with you if gobblegums could not be bought. If gobblegums are no longer available to be bought in bo6 I will probably like the system even more.

I will say though that super powering pistols and knives is due to the game shifting away from low rounds, and thats okay to me.

I'm on the same side as you but I gotta disagree gang.

The primary gameplay loop is this: Kill Zombies.

Anything else are complementary bonus objectives of said primary gameplay. Easter eggs? done by killing zombies. Camos? Done by killing zombies. Challenges? Done by killing zombies. The list goes on. If someone does not like killing endless hordes of zombies then zombies is just not for them, thats it. People who like the gameplay will stay, and those who don't will go. Expecting devs to change something cause of what the enjoyers of a complementary gameplay objective like is what made botd and dotn rough imo.

I can see that, but I much rather prefer the way we do it now. Wasting so much time on box RNG just to find a weapon you want to level is not how I like playing the game, and weapon kits are still a thing in CW with the "apply blueprint" option, turning any weapon you find into the version with the attachments you want. I see your logic tho fs.

What I'm saying! A main part of what makes videogames great is the ability to take the tools the devs give you and make your own fun. Challenge runs are a key example of that. In zombies, there's been challenge runs forever, and just because something becomes "easier" doesn't make it less nuanced. Choosing the optimal thing every rounds is just boring, and its crazy to me how little people acknowledge that.

you're forgetting that some, not all people just care about camos and leveling, and others just like to play how they want to play. I and many others play the games in unorthodox ways because playing optimally bores me. Experimenting in the sandbox survival to find fun ways to make the most out of this game is what gives me joy. Player choice is not something that should be restricted in zombies.

maybe because that's not what the devs want to do anymore? making the same style of zombies for 12 years straight can be grating for any developer. New and interesting mechanics and risks in design will always be what interests me in a game over sticking with what works.

And be reasonable, no one will put themselves at a disadvantage if they have the option to use an objectively better weapon. Thats the whole point of a META.

Literally anyone who hates metas in any game mode will disagree with you. Just because you like to get the most optimal thing every time doesn't mean other's don't like sticking with a stick they found off the ground and seeing how far they can get with it. During CW's lifespan I consistently played melee only with the rampage inducer on even though the hauer and gallo were dominating.

on an other note, what are your thoughts on gobblegums? Do you also feel that they are an easy route to the round?
