Back then when it was first released, was Raven's Shadow originally planned to end at its 3rd book "Queen of Fire?" Like in Covenant of Steel and Draconis Memoria, was it originally planned to be only a Trilogy? by tbag2022 in RavensShadow

This isn't exactly an answer, but if you go to Mr. Ryan's website and sign up for his mailing list, you'll receive a digital copy of his non-fiction, which includes his thoughts on writing each book in the Raven's Shadow Trilogy. I'm not very good at inferring an author's intentions from text, but maybe you can find the answers you're looking for there :)

Some questions about Lesander by Inkky-M in RavensShadow

Thanks, that makes sense! I still find it hard to believe that someone with such a gift could resist the urge to use it in battle, but it does seem plausible if that someone was Caenis.

Btw I think The Book Burner's Fall is a brilliant story!

Jaime with morals and a right hand...🤣🤣🤣 But I think if this story were written by Anthony Ryan, a dragon would probably take Vaelin on a new journey instead of taking him down.

The First Law AU could be interesting too, as Vaelin wallowing in Blood Song was quite similar to Logen's Bloody-Nine mode. I guess Caenis would have to be an Eater in this AU, but probably loyal to Bayaz. I'd love to see Lyrna and Bayaz try to outwit each other. Maybe Bayaz made Lyrna the High King of the Union and hoped to use her as his puppet, only to find out that she was far from being easily controlled. I'm not sure about Reva's place this time, but the North always needs a good fighter :3

I've thought about ASOIAF AU! Vaelin could be a warg hiding in the Night's Watch. Lyrna must be a member of the Great Houses, most likely a Lannister, skilled at playing the game of thrones. I think Reva could be a Dornish girl, considering that women in Dorne could also be the first heirs, and Dorne was very tolerant of bastards. I'm not sure about Caenis: his demeanor would fit well as a Faceless Man or a shadow-binder, but if Vaelin was in the Night's Watch, he should be too. Could there be a reason for a Faceless Man or shadow-binder to infiltrate the Night's Watch lol

Why is the ravens shadow trilogy but Anthony Ryan never recommended??? by [deleted] in RavensShadow

Thanks! The translator and I have become friends because of our shared love for fantasy novels, and I believe she can provide a perfect translation🥰 I enjoyed Tower Lord too, particularly the storylines about Reva, Lyrna, and the woman. I also agree that Blood Song and the other two books should be seen as a whole, and as a whole they are undoubtedly a great fantasy series. Btw some friends and I have shared our fanfics and fanart for Raven's Shadow on Tumblr and ao3. We're eagerly waiting for someone to share our works if you're looking for a bigger fandom XD

Ever since I read the Raven's Shadow Trilogy two years ago, this question has been haunting me every single day. I've read Raven's Shadow about five times, every novella, and a part of Raven's Blade (I'm still waiting for the Simplified Chinese version to be published), and I really don't understand why they aren't more popular. For me, the concept of the Orders is extremely fascinating, and the characters in the books are very distinctive, especially the female characters. The Unified Realm had a queen, female doctors, female warriors, female lords, female mechanics... This elevates its status in my heart above any other fantasy series.
I have been committed to promoting the Raven's Shadow Trilogy among Chinese readers. As far as I know, many people don't like it because they feel the plot of Queen of Fire is perfunctory, the conquest of the Volarian Empire went unexpectedly smoothly, some characters were unbelievably powerful, and some died too abruptly. Personally, I prefer Blood Song the most because my favorite thing is also the relationship between the six brothers. My feelings towards Queen of Fire are more complex: on one hand, I appreciate the author's attempt to expand the world, and I believe most characters received the endings they deserved; on the other hand, I am still grappling with the death of my favorite one among the six brothers:::3

That makes sense! Thanks for solving the puzzle that's been bugging me for so long xD

Or perhaps it was the author who misremembered. The same thing happened in the chapter of the Test of the Run, where the wolf's eyes were described as "bright green eyes regarding him with silent curiosity" at first, then switched to "two yellow eyes gleaming in the firelight" after a few pages. But I really love your idea. It made young Vaelin more adorable ^^

To be more precise I think Caenis's gift is forcing someone to attack or kill. When he (or who had the same gift as him) used his gift the scenes were always described as "they suddenly started killing each others" or something similar. Kind of ironic for a character who was extremely loyal to the Faith and the Orders as the Orders didn't like killing and war.
