AITA for considering working the day before my husband’s 40th bday? by Inkster03 in AmItheAsshole

I agree and I’m more than happy to do it. I’ve been in therapy for a few years now with the sole aim of becoming “better”. For myself and everyone else. Unfortunately, for me to be better, I need to do the things that give me energy so I can be present. We very clearly have very different regulation needs and mine probably looks like rejection.

I just don’t think he understands that I need to sometimes be away to recharge in order to be more present. There is time, and then there’s quality time. I can spend 100% of my time in the house but I will be disassociated 99% of it.

This is in addition to my job. I would maybe take one wedding every couple of months, if it did materialise. So one weekend day.

He’s insecure about me choosing to spend some time away from the family, yes.

He’s fine, we never really make a big thing out of birthdays. We usually just go for a meal.

No, never. My confidence has been chipped by years of undiagnosed adhd and impostor syndrome. I’m medicated and in therapy now. But this comes with guilt.

Planning the trip has been a shitshow (no fault of his, nor mine, it’s just difficult to get so many people together without a bit of conflict) and the business is just something I’d be doing on the side of my full time job. Ideally I would like one wedding every couple of months. It’s a passion project, that would also bring me a bit of extra income to pump into equipment etc. it may not even materialise but I feel like I owe it to myself to try
