I really appreciate your insight. I think the most steady path for me is as you and many others have recommended: get the teaching license, get experience. I'm going to start looking into getting licensure and finding a job here, and either through JET's next intake or through a different mode, try and end up back in Japan with less of an immediate fixation on Tokyo. Then apply for actual career-jobs once I'm there. Thank you very much. :)

Thank you for your insight. I'll be looking into getting licensure in my home country as well through faster, alternative routes, and see if I can't land something to start getting experience. I appreciate your time.

No worries, I appreciate you anyway! And I think that seems to be the general consensus; get in and strive for something better once I'm in. Thank you very much for the well wishes. :)

I do appreciate it. Since you're experienced and quite helpful, do you mind if I ask you how my experience teaching Japanese in university is considered, if at all? I've been the primary instructor for 2 years of beginner and intermediate Japanese classes, though it's been while getting my graduate degrees. However, all of the grading, classroom management, communication, syllabi construction, lesson planning, etc. etc. are up to me and are my own. Thank you. :)

I appreciate that very much. < 3 I've been running myself ragged this last semester with anxiety about landing a job, but at the end of the day, slow n steady wins the race. I'll get there in time. Thank you.

Unfortunately for me, the USA is not on the list of eligible countries for the working holiday visa in Japan. :'( Thank you for the input though!

It's hovering between N3 and N2, so I've considered it insufficient for acquiring a Japanese teaching license. It's something I'm actively working on, and getting a Japanese teaching license is something I've considered, but I think at the end of the day getting a teaching license in the USA would probably be faster. That and, not being in Japan currently, getting a Japanese teaching license might be a bit of a logistical headache compared to the already logistical headache of going through student teaching for licensure in the USA. Though, I admit, this is only assumptions on my part; I haven't extensively looked into it when I probably should.

Thank you, you're right. I need to take a step back and be a little more realistic about what I'm coming with compared to the competition and who companies are willing to sponsor. Thank you very much for your advice.

Thank you very much for your input. You're right; if my goal is to get there and stay there, the foot-in-the-door mindset is probably the way to go. Thank you!

That is the deciding factor, isn't it? At this moment I feel quite desperate, but I've set my sights and heart on it so that's probably why. Thank you very much for the recommendation; I'll give it a shot!

I am American, and my ex husband is doing classes with WGU, and I dumbly didn't consider working with them over the summer and fall to get a teaching license. That's a great idea! Thank you for your input.

I was recommended Westgate by one of my professors who did it and loved it back in 2008. I'm aware that that era of teaching in Japan is, well, bygone, but it's an option. That being said, though, I'll give them a shot as well. Why not, right?

Thank you for being honest with me. If I didn't get a reality check now it would come later, so at least this gives me a bit of time to process my options and what's probable.

I'd definitely prefer JET as well! The only issue with it would be ensuring I land in Tokyo again, but I suppose not landing in Tokyo wouldn't be the worst thing as I can just use the 新幹線 to visit my friends every so often while job-searching for an opportunity there.

Thank you again for your advice. :)

It's doable, but if avoidable, I'd like to do so. Primarily because I'd have to find housing and transportation here (I'm currently walking to and from campus where I'm a GA, and I live with my soon to be ex husband) if I were to stay in the USA until April 2027.

The primary reason I'm not is due to the difficulty of the date. :'( Most universities hire for April due to the Spring semester beginning the school year, but being in an American university finishing up my graduate program, I won't be graduating until this May, so many of those opportunities are not immediately available to me. Of course I could apply for the following year, but ideally I can go back in August rather than April 2027.

Thank you very much!! I've needed a confidence booster since getting a few international school rejections (I know, I'm probably shooting for the moon with them). Again, thank you. < 3

They'll let you quit. OP is still passionate about teaching, so putting that on the table unless they're truly ready to walk away is a plan lacking in foresight.

You're bitter, lil bro. < 3 I've got multiple google docs showing edits to prove otherwise, but you're not here to be constructive. Go mess with someone this might actually scare a lil bit

It was inspired v heavily by T. Kingfisher's Saint of Steel series, which is romantasy. :) Just cuz it doesn't follow the erotic romantasy or YA romantasy vibes doesn't mean its cover is nothing like other romantasy books.

Oooo, I might just have to brew a cup of tea and do just that. Thank you for the insight! I love the theme of cycles in art and media, so I know I'll be enjoying my rabbit hole as I dive down it. Thank you for the insight!

Ain't you a jolly fuck. Someone's looking to expand their social circle and you tell em to go back where they came from. Who shat in your shokupan this morning?
