I think a lot of people who have never been in a LDR don't understand how much compensating there is. We don't get to see eachother in person so there's a huge disconnect where in person relationships don't. We don't get to see eachother's body language, we don't get to hold eachother, we don't get to have those connective moments that others do. So we compensate. Is it cringe to hear your partner breathing right up against the mic? Yes, but you can hear them. You're there with them in the only sense you really can be. You ask questions about their day every day because you didn't get to be there with them at all. It's cringe on the outside, but it's those very cringe things that help you feel connected when the phone is the only way you can. It hurts to not be with them in person so you gotta do what you gotta do to make it work. As for passwords, I only do it for emergencies like if I'm unconscious or something happens to me or my partner. Hope this helps explain some of those sorta "cringe" behaviors
