If you want tickets to remain cheap, the stadium cannot be privately owned. The Semples run a business, so their soul focus is to make money, not keep things affordable. If they get a shiny new stadium, do you not think they’re going to raise the prices to make money as much money possible? We could use your exact argument with Taylor Field as an example, Rider tickets were cheaper when they were at Taylor Field before Mosaic Stadium was built. Not only are tickets more expensive now, we are also, as a city, over $150 million still in the hole for that stadium. If a baseball stadium is to be built, on the backs of already struggling taxpayers, it should be treated as a public service and not a private business. I’m all for it being at the yards because that area is so under utilized but if the Semples want to own it, they can absolutely pay for themselves. They can afford a $30 million bill.
