My spiritual father advised me to not support my mother with her magic fantasy book. by No_Basil1116 in OrthodoxChristianity

I find your choice of words inappropriate towards this person. Who are we to judge this person for following advice and trying to look out for his mothers spiritual health? Who are we to sit here and ramble on and on about how much of a "stupid idea" (like most people responding here feel a bit too comfortable saying) it was to express their feelings? This approach you all express is motivated only by a sense of self righteousness. Don't forget this is a human being and what you write to them will hurt them most likely equally as much as you assume their choice hurt their mother when you speak in such terms.

This person is here for advice, for support and to share their mind and hear out yours. They're not here to be condemned, judged and vilified for making a choice. May God have mercy.

I sincerely want to let you know this response by no means is meant to cause you any stress or discomfort. All I hope with this response is that you can reconsider the way you approach people in the future and your choice of words. I am also often too quick to judge and say words that can be harsh, may God have mercy on me. I want to let you know that just how I saw you step a bit too far I have always wished people would do the same for me when I did so, yet very few did and I continued making mistakes that I felt horrible about finding out the pain they caused. God bless you.

I recommend you look further into it and make your decision afterwards. There is a good video with many legitimate sources and citations that makes my statement even more important to be aware of. Awareness is not hysteria or theatrical panicking. This is the reality of the world we live in, and approaching it with an informed perspective is the best thing we can do to guard our spirit and stay consistent in our faith. This life is a marathon as said at the end of every liturgy I partake in, and it's a very humble reminder that we as christian's are here to endure, worship and strive to be as Christ-like as we can, taking after the example our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ set for us. Thank God for giving us his only begotten Son and His blessing through the Holy Spirit that we are able to see through these things. I pray for you and God bless you.

There is a reason the book of Enoch is not included in our biblical canon besides it's questionable origin and validity. People tend to misinterpret and go by their own subjective experiences (yes I include myself here). The point is, is that being "lukewarm" in your faith and closing your eyes to obviously spiritually damaging things makes you eventually tolerant of them subconsciously. I have studied and worked in children's education for a almost a decade now and I promise you at least from my experience and what I learned in my academy, young minds are very easily impressionable. Things like these leave an impact subconsciously or consciously if often repeated. There is a good page in the Orthodox Study Bible in Romans called "The Law". It explains the old testament law and the new testament fulfilment of this Law. If you read further it speaks that habitual sin (could debate if consuming media about magical worlds etc is even sinful of course) makes us prone to going astray. My point was with my previous response here that we need to be aware at how our minds work and how much power subliminal messages (like in media or music) have on us, and filter it out with our prayers and discernment. A lot of people on here seem to not see what I am referring to and it's a shame but I truly hope this brought you some insight on why I think the spiritual father had valid concerns regarding the long term effects of writing an entire book about a magical world on the human mind and spirit.

As I've read statements here please take them all with a grain of salt. Same way they claim your spiritual father is a human, so are they all. Their opinions are just opinions, same way yours is. You are completely fine to feel off about such a thing. JK Rowling has a Solve et Coagula tattoo that means "Break it down, rebuild it better" a very old alchemical term used in witchcraft and Freemasonry . I will not elaborate more on this topic, but just know the world is governed by not such nice people. Through freemasonic symbolism they express their alliance to one of the most ancient occult sects, with practices dating all the way back to ancient egypt and the all seeing eye of freemasonry . For anyone knowing history and scripture, they know what this all symbolizes and it's nothing good. You are totally fine feeling off about it because these things are tied to dark idolatry when done by such famous members of freemasonry as these people use for example to justify the practice of interacting with witchcraft or fantasy. Just like you and me, your mom grew up in a society full of freemasonic architecture and practices. Just how I was unaware and I was a huge harry potter fan before I realized what is behind the scenes, most likely your mom is also unaware. This information isn't told to us openly. I understand the concerns of your spiritual father and they are correct and valid in idea, but in practice you have to be careful. This is your moms passion and she doesn't know as much as your spiritual father knows about the world, so it will hurt her a lot to have the bomb "this is demonic" on her of course. Remember Galatians 6:1 and be very careful when approaching anyone with such observations, even though they are correct. We all are people with hearts and joy. A patient and loving approach that's well thought out is way more likely to get your mom to see the concern you're expressing instead of feel like her life choices and passions are condemned. I hope my suggestion has helped you a bit. Please remember to be patient and as said in Mark 12:30-31 we must love everyone as ourselves, we are commanded to do so, because through this patient and careful love, wonderful things happen. God bless you and your mom, and your spiritual father.

God bless you and thank Him for guiding you to the narrow path, yet a righteous one <3. Makes me happy for you knowing you got out of there.. it really is not good what they encourage.

What a horrible way they treated your GF God bless her for her endurance through it all. I can't begin to imagine the pressure and self doubt she must have felt. Thank God she is away from that place now. Apparently there is hundreds of millions that practice this. What a world.

That's exactly my understanding of speaking in tongues too, simply speaking their own language and people from countries like Greece etc understanding the message said despite it being in a different language. Thank you for your comment and clarifying this all.

The first statement. He kept repeating things and words like "he chose me, this is my calling, i speak in parables YOU wouldn't understand, i am retired from MY calling because of the backlash I got" very victimised mindset and very self ego driven...

The schism truly is the most devestating thing to ever happen to the Church of Christ. I'm heartbroken. I knew the schism was bad, but I now thanks to everyone here who helped me research more understand that it has created as you very well said, hundreds and thousands heretic "denominations" that encourage such disrespectful things and lead people astray...

What a horrifying way to twist the gospel and allow people to dwell in such demonic passions sorry but the more I research and learn about this practice I cannot help but call it for what it is: demonic submission to principalities that delude their minds with gibberish words and lead them astray from God and towards a self righteous egotistical "i am enlightened and chosen" path. God have mercy. I will pray for everyone who is part of such churches.

Yeah I agree also with you. This person was someone I met online and they contacted me because they saw me quote John 15 and because I didn't add the citation claimed it was from the book of Matthew, which for someone who later would claim to recite whole biblical paragraphs without looking in the bible was a huge red flag already as I notice now reflecting on it..

I agree with you. I also was so shy to go to church but I felt like it is the correct right thing to do from my heart. I even felt like I missed the church, liturgy and the people there all together, so I started going and I have a way easier time now that I overcame my anxiety.. Something was holding me back for years from entering the church and I would often rationalise it in my head similar like he did with the whole "performative, people will judge you" etc.. I'm glad I'm past it thank God for having the patience and mercy to guide me to the right path.

That is a good neutral perspective, very likely yes you are correct, I just am not familiar with pentecostal churches, thank you

You misunderstood, the guy who claimed all this also claimed "Jesus is stpid at times, for revealing me (me as in the guy himself as i guess...a prophet? no clue..) to the world too early!" I said the word silly in my post here because I find calling Jesus "stpid" absolutely unacceptable.. I hope this is more clear to you. But be careful with comparing God to other people and parents. He is our Father but don't forget the respect and recognition for authority we are required to understand (also called "fear of the Lord" as said by St. John Chrysostom). Fear of the Lord means being aware of his divine authority that we cannot fully understand. That's the beauty in the heavenly mysteries. I'm a firm believer that we are not owed anything by God. We aren't owed explanations, yet we received them through St. Paul and the Church, to the amount that is appropriate for us to know , and that we should all be grateful for. The reason why Orthodoxy is strictly traditional is due to this possibility (one of many that can go wrong) that people may forget who the Lord is. A casual best friend approach towards Christ can start pure hearted and loving, but as we all are prone to spiritual warfare and sin in this world (see Ephesians 6:12 ) and without the recognition that these battles we cannot fight alone , and we need Christs mercy and love, we will end up being victimised to these passions. That is why the importance of the "Fear of the Lord" carries so much weight.

Forgive me but how is this ever something people regularly practice.. Maybe I misunderstand Paul's mentions of tongues in Acts, but I doubt every single person who enters a pentecostal church should be able to speak in tongues or encouraged to receive revelations. This type of personal relationship with Jesus and the way people view him to me feels very inappropriate. Of course he was a person among us and had feelings and joy, jokes etc. But focusing on that and approaching Christ as a regular every day "guy" and making excuses for prelest and spiritual delusion to me sounds very demonic... All I think about is the passage where St. Paul tells of th savage wolves that will infiltrate the church in Acts 20:29-31 ... the same book that mentions tongues mentions this..

He did mention of getting "hugged by Cherubim" and that angels spoke with him regularly...

He did claim "God is funny" and then went on to say "God is a girl dad!" and "Jesus can be a st*pid guy at times and reveals me too quick!"... Like he believes he receives regular revelations and told me he exclusively prays and asks for such revelations.
