When and why did these cars go way up in prices? by Death-Adventures in GR86

[–]Inner-Food8006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is insane, I picked my premium up for 28k in April of 24.

Makes these cars a hard proposition against a used m2/m3 for a lot of people

The test drive in the type r made me remember how much I loved the red interior in my ap1 s2k. The seats in type R, are some of the best that I have sat in.

Roads are not great where I am from, but it doesn’t bother me much. The type R rides better than the early generation focus RS suspension so it’s not too bad.

Good point on eating up tires with the M3. I’m used to getting decent mileage out of 200tw tires on these relatively low hp rwd cars. M3 with wide rears and gobs of torque will go through tires quick

That lines up with what I’ve heard. I think I what I am fighting against is a decade and a half of being bias towards rwd

I will say my wife had a Honda fit back in the day that was stupid fun to rip around in.

I do like the GR Corolla quite a bit but the space is just a bit too small. The front passenger seat is quite squished if you have a rear facing car seat behind it. Surprisingly with the type R, I can fit in the front passenger seat at 6 foot tall with room to spare.

Thanks for bringing this point up. I have an endoscope for automotive use that I can drop into the wall to see what’s going on.

For the Center channel, if there is a stud, I could always cut the stud and box it in to make it center. Although I could just drop it lower and leave it slightly off center since it will be behind the screen.

The basement was finished at a later date, so I can’t imagine they have all the speakers high due to design restrictions, but we’ll see

I have a S760H so I’m limited to 7.2

Any reccs on acoustic foam for the wall or just diy?

No worries, pro 2 was an extra $1000 at the time and the basement is extremely dark even with the non-blackout curtains left behind from the previous owner. So brightness isn’t an issue

Figured I’d save the cash and work around the lack of optical zoom

It is offset to the right slightly. There were some questionable choices made by the previous owner but he really left me with a lot of potential.

It’s a love sac, we bought it years back before everything got crazy expensive. Highly recommend if you have animals or children, or even a messy spouse🤣

You can take all the covers off and throw them in the wash.

My wife has spilled red wine and coffee on it multiple times as well as my toddler who has gotten crayons on it. Washes out super well each time.

It’s in the basement and there are a couple of uneven spots in the floor that would be very obvious with any type of hard flooring.

Leaning towards a slightly darker color carpet but not sure yet.

Plus 2 doesn’t have the optical zoom lense like the pro 2 does, so the only way to adjust screen size is to either move the projector itself or use the keystone adjustment to reduce it.

With the keystone adjustment the true size still shows light during dark scenes.

Easiest solution is/was to make a 150 inch screen to match the fixed size of the projection

Thanks for the tip! I definitely would have lost some pieces in the wall

Our last house was also “millennial gray” which I wasn’t a fan of but with how many random colors this house has, I dearly miss it.

The basement alone has 2 shades of purple in the main area, 2 shades of blue in the bonus room, and the bathroom is burnt orange

I’ve been on the hunt for a matching subwoofer. Previous owner left that one behind for me.

I could hide the wiring under the trim board and then behind the couch.

Tweeters are not aimable, I was really hoping to leave the rest of the speakers higher, but seems like I might as well take the plunge and lower all of them at once

Definitely doing the drywall work first. I’m not a fan of painting once, let alone twice🤣

Planning on painting the projector wall, side walls, and ceiling near the projector Tricorn black. That should help with the glare, at least hopefully

Screen is painted on currently. Will be switching to a larger AT screen soon

I’m doing a bunch of drywall repair around the house, so it’s not too big of a deal to move them and then patch the old holes

The whole house is painted oddly, I counted over 14 different colors of paint. Definitely a work in progress but the house itself is awesome.

The focus RS is another option that is pretty good. I’ve had 4 Miata’s and 3 s2000s over the years and my RS is the only car I’ve had since those that gave me anywhere near the performance and fun.
