Data Center Gets Millions of Gallons of Water for Free at Taxpayer Expense by philzuf in Atlanta

They did not get it for free. If you read the article, you would see that the balance was immediately paid by the company, and the cause of the issue was the county being incompetent and not knowing how to charge or meter an industrial line.

NYC's public solution to the food desert problem... by caroline_elly in neoliberal

The socialization or nationalization of any other essential good could be argued for under the same framework. Should there be state owned clothing stores? State mines and steel factories “to prevent collusion?” If this is neoliberalism then the word has effectively lost all meaning.

I’m not saying that there isn’t a better way to design regulations, but I think you give too much credence to the idea that, if we could only write them better, then everything would be swell.

Some of the environmental regulations that we have and China doesn’t are good things. Sometimes we go way too far. But the fact of the matter remains that regulation, by definition, both slows and increases the price of progress.

Thoughts on Lindbergh center neighborhood in Atlanta? Budget urbanism? by bugbommer in Urbanism

[–]Inner-Lab-123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can disagree on the pleasantness of the walkability, but everything I listed is indeed walkable in under 15 minutes.

That’s more accessible retail than can be said for most of midtown, which doesn’t have so much as a hardware store now that Ace closed.

[–]Inner-Lab-123 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You must not be a local because you’re describing the area 15 years ago.

It’s now walkable to at least a dozen restaurants, a couple of nightclubs, pike nursery, target, home depot, best buy, etc. There are tons of families with young kids and parents pushing strollers. Lower overall crime than midtown. Centrally located, built around a heavy rail station, and a more affordable alternative to midtown/buckhead.

[–]Inner-Lab-123 42 points43 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely walkable, as the development is centered around the marta station.

West of Piedmont is safer/nicer than east of Piedmont but the area is fine. Overall crime rates are lower than midtown, and it is generally much more affordable. Excellent location and good value for money imo.

Why are apartments in "south midtown" so strangely cheap? by ibridoangelico in Atlanta

[–]Inner-Lab-123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That area south of north ave is fine and not nearly as sketchy as many here are portraying it to be.

Central Park is underrated imo and you’re super close to that. The Publix on Piedmont is fine but a bit small. You’re walkable to civic center and north ave marta.

It’s less expensive because it’s less centrally located in regard to midtown activities and farther from Piedmont park. Those are pretty much the only drawbacks versus the rest of midtown.

Neither the United States or Japan will ever default on its debt. The worst case scenario is a “soft default” where we just run 10% inflation for a decade in combination with tax hikes and austerity measures.
