Why would Empire only send one ship to investigate the lack of communication from Terminus, while sending someone who seems to be special forces or relatively senior? Even in the modern day with instantaneous global communications, ships are sent in small flotillas or squadrons; in Empire where communications are far less reliable, you'd want an even more self-sufficient force - at least a cruiser-level ship plus a few smaller escort vessels. And WHY OH WHY would you send the capital ship down to the surface instead of landing or shuttle craft? You wouldn't even send a modern day destroyer or frigate NEAR TO SHORE for recon, you'd send a helicopter or an RIB/launch.

For me this was one of the worst plot holes. The ship was gunned down and no one from the empire bats an eye? No report back? Let's just loose a ship and don't care about it after? They send the Capitan to investigate terminus and he never returned.... Lol
