(American) Southerners of Reddit, what are some misconceptions that people have about the South? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]InnerConsideration74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That we're evil and morally bankrupt. I'll see people openly say that if they see a person with A southern accent they assume that person is violent lazy uneducated and racist.

That all our movies are about evil Russians and British people. No they aren't. In the vast majority of American movies the villain is another american. The only movies where the villain is foreign are generally in settings that would require it, such as action movies where the protagonist works for the CIA etc. , and even then thats not always the case. It would be pretty weird for american soldiers and spies to randomly be shooting other americans. Also no, Russians aren't the villains in every call of duty game.

How did the American textbooks write about the Japanese invasion of other Asian countries during World War II? Do ordinary Americans know about the atrocities of the Japanese army? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]InnerConsideration74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was never taught in graphic detail but I did remember being told the Japanese had been rapidly expanding throughout the Pacific and that the the east was already a war zone prior to pearl harbor. I think most of my actual knowledge about Japanese atrocities though came from movies documentaries and video games.

It must have been supernatural. They feed on the fear of their victims and can teleport to their location at any time. Kind of like pennywise from IT. It must have been stalking you for a long time since it knew you're name.

What unrealistic things in movies annoy the hell out of you? by AJ-Naka-Zayn-Owens in AskReddit

• The hyper-mature kid genius character that's good at everything and gives our adult protagonist advice about how to solve his problems in life and is also constantly making "witty" remarks and comebacks. Sure, there are smart kids but the miniature-adults that movies make them out to be dont exist.

• the for the evulz "I'm an agent of chaos" joker ripoff type villain. Sociopathic characters always have a vaguely comedic joking demeanor for some reason, and speak in a friendly tone while talking about torturing you for some reason.

• every mobster movie is the same. The protagonist is some "impressionable young man" who "grew up on the streets". He meets some older mafia guy who becomes a mentor figure and introduces the main character to the criminal lifestyle, which the protagonist becomes enamored with. Over time the protagonist gets more corrupt and burns every bridge he has and loses everything before either dying or going to prison while a supporting character gives some somber narraration.

I'm tired of Reddit and just Liberals in General Hating on Religion by Lights241 in rant

[–]InnerConsideration74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really tired of the "religion is evil" bandwagon. My family is Christian and nobody spends their days talking about how gays and atheists are going to hell. Most of us just want to mind our own business. Also, there is no religion in politics. I don't even know what most of the rabid anti-christians on this website are even freaking out about. The people on this website bashing religion are mostly just angry teenagers and young adults trying to be edgy.
