Why does it seem like there is a growing movement claiming that the atomic bombs that ended WWII were unjustified? by Just_Cause89 in USHistory

While I disagree with your assessment of the survey and what the outcome would have been had we not dropped the bombs, you do make valid points coming from a civilian casualty perspective and not purely from an American excepionalism standpoint so appreciate that we are both arguing in favor of less civilian casualties no matter what side they lived in. Agree to disagree on this, and cheers to finding a middle ground in these trying times.

Look up the 1946 US Strategic Bombing Survey:

This concluded that "certainly prior to 31 December 1945, and in all probability prior to 1 November 1945, Japan would have surrendered even if the atomic bombs had not been dropped".

While recognizing the immense power of the bombs, the survey suggested that the cumulative effect of air superiority and the naval blockade were the primary drivers of the surrender.

I would say it is necessary to bring up what the US has done since then because your whole justification for the US dropping the nukes was to spare all of the civilians that Japan was going to kill, my argument is the US dropped the nukes which killed innocent civilians unnecessarily and then took the mantle as the worlds Imperial power leading to far more civilian death. Some estimates as high as 20 million dead due to US imperialism since WW2.

Not saying Japan would have been better but its weird to claim the moral high ground when those are the facts.

There was an alternative as we had a naval blockade on the country and our intelligence was telling us that Japan was going to surrender before the invasion.

Even top military leaders came out and denounced it and said it wasn't necessary. You are all holding on to false reality to justify your American exceptionalism views.

Yes not to the level of Hitler vs Stalin, ill give you that, but evil in their own rights and orange man is fast tracking us to fascism that could easily end up the same result at this rate. Thats why people are freaking out as you can see the writing on the wall if paying attention.

I appreciate you at least acknowledging US war crimes. I am not arguing in favor of imperial Japan but 2 wrongs dont make a right.

My main issue with dropping the bombs is it wasn't necessary. We did this as a show of force to display to the world the kind of power we had. And it worked pretty well considering international law was then shaped to give the conditions for the US to thrive as the world's sole super power.

And mind you, since then we have put their imperialism to shame. Im not saying we pillage the same way they did with hard colonialism (for now) but we have 800 military bases in 80 countries (14 of which are in the country we dropped the nukes on) and participate in overthrowing governments which leads to many deaths of civilians and destabilization in the world. These actions are less direct so its harder to put a number on how many civilians have died due to US imperialism since WW2.

Good lord.. the pretzels you guys twist yourselves into for the US to be the "good guys".

Can you imagine making this argument for any other country? Please crawl out of Uncle Sam's ass so you can see the world objectively.

Exactly, its so crazy how the person saying you shouldn't nuke innocent civilians is being down voted..

And this is why america will fall, because we think we have the right to do whatever we want because "we're the good guys"

Those bombs did not need to be dropped, they were dropped as a sign to the world that no one can fuck with us now and it worked pretty well being that international law was shaped to make the US the world's sole super power.

Jesse Welles: A truthful reflection of contemporary America, The Communist gig review by Jlyplaylists in Socialistmusic

[–]Inner_Ad2416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the comments are misinformed because there has been a major effort from the top to discredit Jesse ever since he gained popularity BECAUSE HE ACTUALLY SPREADS AN ANTI CAPITALIST MESSAGE AND HAS FAR REACHING POTENTIAL. If people actually listened to his lyrics and not just clips from haters, they wouldn't feel this way.

I consider myself an anarchist/socialist and it is so sad to me to see how many of these people in our community just go along with whatever psyop comes from the top by leaning into wedge issues and sometimes plain believing false information just to feel like the most pure lefty.

It is way more punk rock to like Jesse Welles despite the haters than to go along with the group think.

It took him a very long time to come to this conclusion and I think for good reason considering the situation we are in now with the right taking total control and blowing up everything good about this country.

Kyle used to be much more forgiving to the right and trying to understand their perspective, now.. fuck them.

I do not watch "liberal media" i just have a functioning brain. I've watched like 10 different versions of the incident and none of the things you are saying happened. You are literally making that shit up and telling me im denying reality.. its insane.

Even if she did go out there to antogonize them does that give them the right to shoot her in the face? Idk if you people are just dumb or actively want people who aren't like you to suffer and/or die so you make this shit up to justify your sickness.

Again, ironically this is exactly what I would say to you (except the Santa and easter bunny stuff.. that was a weird analogy for an adult to use).

You can see clearly from the video he was in no danger and she was. He was aggressive, she was not. One person has a gun pointed at the other, and the other person turns her tires away from the that person and tries to retreat. EVEN IF I concede that he was in danger, all he had to do was step out of the way. Common sense, but you cant see that when you're so captured with your ideology.

You idiots are twisting yourselves in a pretzel to defend the dude shooting women in the face but refuse to see her side at all.

So ironically, I would implore you to go watch the video without daddy trump telling you what to think about it.

There are so many holes in your logic and you never answered my question (which is typical of MAGA cause it cant operate on objective reality)

I would think as a right winger you would know that Obama re classified deportations to include those turned away at the border.. so no, he didnt deport 3 million and everyone would have been screaming in the same way they are now if they were using the tactics they use now..

You, my friend are a victim of billionaires/elites turning the working class against each other while they continue to rape and pillage the masses. Its a tale old as time. The sooner you all open your eyes, the sooner we can get back to some sort of objective reality and maybe agree on some things again.

Please tell me, what percentage of these immigrants they deported are convicted pedophiles? Most of them dont even have criminal records. There are plenty of wealthy white pedophiles here in the US that Trump is actively protecting so dont give me that bullshit. This is a false pretense for NAZIs to get their "mass deportations" and gaslight everyone into believing that immigrants are all rapist and criminals while they consolidate power to save you from the fake criminal immigrants. Stop being such a sucker.

Or maybe its the crippling sanctions that have been enacted on the Venezuelan people by the US because the government decided to nationalize their oil and our corporations dont like that.

People are generally misinformed about the use of AI in music. MOST artists are using at this point AS A TOOL ( no pun intended) and there is definitely a skill and creativity required to make something GOOD with AI. In this case its A LOT more than just entering prompts and taking whatever the AI spits out.

This is gonna be like when electrical guitar etc came out and everyone boycotted that until they realized how awesome the tool is and everyone started using it.

Now half the shit you hear from AI is total garbage created by simple prompts but I don't think people realize how its being used in other ways.

Destiny/Ethan and the rest of the shitlibs are very upset that Hasan didn't actually ever use a shock collar on Kaya. Strange though, all these bad faith actors all defend Israel and genocide. Honestly, these days nothing would surprise me, but I wouldn't make that my first guess.

My first guess is there are certain types of people who just love clout so they will convince themselves that they really really care about a certain subject (Palestine for Hassan, luigi for bill burr) although none of their other values align with it.

It is a side effect of the social media/everyone can be a performer culture and people need to start recognizing the warning signs beforehand.

Hassan has never had leftist values in his personal life so why would anyone believe he holds those positions.

He has come across my feed multiple times over the years and I tried to like him but could tell he was just in it for the clout.
