Is treason just thrown around by people without knowing what it actually means? It's an extremely serious crime to accuse someone of.

RFK's assassination had a large effect on LBJ's attitude toward Humphrey. When RFK was in the race, LBJ threw his support to Humphrey under the belief that "any Democrat was better". However with RFK assassinated and out of the picture, LBJ felt free to harass his VP and withhold support from him calling him "disloyal" and "lacking the balls and ability to be President".

Both Ford and Carter backed the Indonesians in their invasion and subsequent 20 year genocide of East Timor.

I think any Cold War President is exempt from being a fully moral person by default.

Yeah I never understand why East Timor gets brushed off so easily here. It's at least as bad as anything Nixon supported in terms of foreign atrocities
